Just curious if anyone out there is struggling with this issue?

I have before but am not currently working on one. MommyJ is working on her dissertation. She's mostly off the boards (self-imposed) so she can concentrate more on her dissertation, but you can e-mail her. :)

Not me, but I think Judegirl is working on her dissertation IIRC.

I'm working on my disseration. Maybe it's a bad sign that I'm the only one who's working on one and also here chatting all the time. :) I'm definitely struggling. Feel free to PM/email me if you want to chat about this.

I should be working on my master's thesis, but I seem to have made a pretty good career out of avoiding it since 1997! I now live halfway across the country from my grad school and they are giving me grief about finishing after so much time has passed.

I JUST finished my master's thesis earlier this month, in fact. It was honestly a last-ditch effort to finish before the baby was born, but it's a huge relief to be done and have the degree on the way. I finished all my classes 3 years ago and just had the thesis to do. I'd been putting it off, but when I got pregnant last fall I knew that if I didn't get it done before DS2 was born, it would never happen.

It was tough to do with a toddler and being pregnant, but definitely do-able. Are you working on one?

I fall into the I've-done-it-before camp, too (two theses and a dissertation). Need some support?

Also in the been-there-done-that (while pregnant, too!) camp.

And in the "I'm-there-now" camp, I SHOULD be studying for a licensing exam.

Support being sent your way!!

I finished my dissertation before I had children, but I am happy to offer support. :)

Same here. It was hard enough finishing the dissertation without a baby/toddler. My sympathies to you and lots of support if you're working on one with a baby/toddler.

One resource that I found helpful at the time was the All-But-Dissertation Survival Guide. I received a monthly e-mail newsletter with tips on finishing up the dissertation. There were also telephone support groups with dissertation "coaches" to help motivate you to finish. It's been several years since my dissertation, so the format may have changed some, but you can check it out at www.abdsurvivalguide.com. I know it helped me to realize that others were in the same place as me and to take it one step at a time.

Good luck.

Yep. I'm supposed to defend in December. Not sure I'm going to make it, but I'm highly motivated. I've been doing this (grad school) for ten years....

I've written one of each, and advised many students in finishing theirs. Let us know if you have questions.

Did the thesis thing. Never want to do it again. But I had a horrible advisor, so that didn't help any.

Thankfully it was done pre-ds.

Yes. I'm finished with the IRB and setting up questions for the interviews. DS is 8 months old and I've set the summer up to make serious progress. Hard to put your baby in daycare when you're home all day.

But we're doing the right thing.
