This is the first summer I've been officially diagnosed with asthma. Is it my imagination or has it been getting worse with the heat and humidity?

I had weaned myself off of the Asmanex and Xopenex (a kind of albuterol), but was still taking my Singulair daily. Now I'm using my puffer 2-3 times a day. Thankfully, we have central a/c, so I'm better when I'm inside. But if I have to be out for any extended period of time (walking the dogs, etc), I'm wheezing almost instantly.

Is this what is in store for the entire summer? It's not even June 1st!

yep, the heat and reallly the humidity kills me. i love my advair, it has kept me off of my inhalor. and a heads up, in the winter the cold dry air kills my lungs. i cant breath the minute i walk out the door. hopefully you wont have that problem.

Asthma can be challenging. Finding out what works and what to avoid takes awhile. One of the simplest and cheapest things that works for me is to drink lots of water. I find dehydration won't trigger an attack but it will make my symptoms much worse. Personally I have issues when the ozone count is medium/high or high mold counts. If pollen is a trigger, limit your time outside in the early morning (till the dew burns off, etc).

If it is bothering you a lot, go see your asthma specialist. It can take awhile to find a combination that keeps your symptoms under control. Daily cardio to strengthen your lungs also helps a lot. Good luck in finding something that works for you :)

Everyone has a different trigger(s). Mine are heat/humidity, cold dry air, and exercise. actually ended up in the hospital with an asthma attack that lasted three days last summer in the middle of a heat wave. It was awful Different drugs work for different people, but advair has been a life saver for me. You shouldn't have to use your inhaler more than once a week or less. If you are, your asthma is not under control and you are at risk for a serious attack. Please get yourself in to see a pulmonologist ASAP or at least your family doctor. It sounds like you definitely need to adjust your medication. I wasn't officially diagnosed with asthma until pregnant with Amelia (though I know I had mild asthma before that) but mine got much worse with pregnancy. I now have severe asthma although it is well controlled. Please don't wait to take care of this. PM me if you have any questions. I unfortunately have lots of experience with this one.
