Introducing Cereal the Whale. She knows it is a whale yet insists on calling him Cereal. It is very funny.

What makes it even more funny is that is a cheapy plastic blue whale about a foot long that was on the rim of a "Blue Whale" tropical drink I had right before I got pregnant with her. (still doing spring cleaning, why do I never throw anything away????)

Feel free to share anything your toddler has named!!

Lol! That's very cute.
My little sis used to name all of her dolls "Taxi". She thought it was an incredibly beautiful name.

We have 1 stuffed dog named after a friend of ours, and 3 more named "Puppy". And the other day we were in a store and she saw a stuffed dog that we both adored. She picked it up, looked rapturously at it and said "Mommy! A doggy! His name is.... [deep thought, stares into its eyes, turns it around, contemplates its being fully] ... Puppy!" That did it for me. I was weakening, but I am not living in a house with 4 dogs named Puppy!

Very cute!

Well, her lovey is Lambie or Big Lambie. She also has Baby Lambie and Little Lambie (two other ones). The "substitute" Lambies have remained nameless and mostly untouched. She's named our stuffed black cat Soota, after our neighbor's black cat.

Many of DD's stuffed animals and baby dolls are named Harvey. She can properly name which animal each is, but then she calls it Harvey, LOL.

Not an endearing name, really, but the other morning DS was playing around with the OJ in his cup and spilled some (on purpose)...as I went to go get a paper towel and start on my regular lecture of how we don't play in our cup, Ean looks at the spilled OJ and blurts out, "Mommy! It's Asia!"

I about fell over! Funny thing was, he was exactly right! (He's been learning his continents in Montessori.) I love how their little minds work at this age!

DS has recently started giving toys and objects names. For example, his stuffed dragon is named Puff. The cutest/worst named object in my house is his big plastic ride-on spring horse. Grandma and Papa gave it to DC for Christmas. Is is named "Honkey". Yep, you read right. Conversations in public about "Honkey" the horse are interesting!!

For DS's 2nd birthday, my MIL took us to Build-a-Bear for the first time. DS picked out one of the smaller dark brown teddy bears. We went through the whole stuffing/cleaning/dressing process and got to the naming station. I asked him what the bear's name was, and his reply was as clear as day: "Piano". Yes, Piano the bear. I love getting reminder e-mails from B-a-B that we should bring "Piano" in for a new outfit! :P

Later that summer, he got a Beanie Baby cow that he named "Coffee". Go figure! :)

Great thread, OP!

We have had some funny ones from DS. He has a bear that he named Buddha (after a necklace he saw someone wearing, lol). The bear eventually got renamed Oatmeal by him.

Recently my kids have been collecting small, plastic Schleiff animals. They name them after pets they know from friends or creative things like "Grey" or "Greenie" or "Donkey" or "Little Donkey".

DS got a little horse recently and proudly proclaimed him "Horsey Jones." We were so excited to have an animal with a COOL name!!! LOL!!! 10 minute drive home with his sister and the horse was rechristened. It is now stuck with the so creative name of "Blackie". I guess sometimes you just have to sit back and quietly chuckle, eh? ;-) :-)

That's so cute, especially the story about the horse. :) I can't wait until Kaya gets to that stage, but then again, I've enjoyed all the stages she's been through (although not 100% of the time, LOL). Just think, I get to do it all again! :D

DD is not quite to the age to understand naming something. However, I do think that her little doll's name is "Baby" for now. She looks at herself in the mirror and sees other babies and toddlers and will say "baby" in a sweet sing-songy way - "baaabyyy". She will also sign baby, which is just too cute. When I show her the doll, I can ask "Who is this?". She will answer "Baby" in a matter of fact, "you know who that is" kind of way.

My DS is not quite at this stage yet ;), I just wanted to say that this is such a great post and all of your stories are SO cute! When I was younger my name for EVERYTHING was Murray, I know go figure right?!? I even named the first fish I ever caught w/ my dad Murray, and then my dad ate him :(.

Lol great post though!!!

My ds latched onto the stuffed pumpkin that his grandma gave him at halloween (it was a stuffed "basket" for collecting candy) and named it "bubbe". He never collected any candy in it, but has carried it around ever since. The ironic part about this is that "bubbe" is hebrew (or yiddish) for grandma, which is what my mom wanted him to call her. I swear he did it on his own!
