Adam is almost 18 months old, and when I went to get him from his crib this morning, imagine my surprise to find him on the floor. I am 99% sure he didn't fall - we have wood floors and he weighs 30 pounds, so when he falls, it shakes the house - and he is an adept climber, but we're more than a little concerned with this new development.

First, we don't want him to fall and bonk his head, or worse. However, we don't think that he's ready fo a toddler bed - he'd be all over the place. We removed his crib bumpers a while ago, but he's a tall kid and he is a total monkey when it comes to climbing, so we know it's just a matter of time before he escapes again.

What to do? Should we try a crib tent? SHould we move his mattress to the floor? Any BTDT or other tips would be great. Thanks!

The crib tent depends on how long you want to keep him in the crib. If it were me, I'd get it in a heartbeat! We've had one on Kaya's crib since Day 1 (so she's been totally used to it from the beginning) and at 2+ she's still in her crib. Our current plan is to keep her in the crib until she's at least 3, longer if she's not too tall and still wants to be in the crib. Our baby is coming when she's 3 months shy of 3 years and we think moving her out of the crib at that point will mean that when the baby comes, she'll want to be back in the crib. She really really loves being in her crib. So we're actually going to get a second crib, or borrow one.

Anyway, that was going off topic, but yes, I would definitely recommend the crib tent, especially if you want to keep him in the crib, and it sounds like you do.

I would get a Crib Tent II - that's the newer version with mesh all the way around the crib.

This is what we use for our little escape artist, and we've been quite happy with it.

My child flipped herself over the rail and lay nonresponsive. She was fine, but Dr. said Crib Tent. I consider it a lifesaver.

That's what we used; it kept DS1 in the crib until he was 3.25yo and we were ready to move him to a big boy bed! Worth every penny!

Crib Tent II. My son started climbing out of his crib at a year old and it kept him in.

That is exactly what we're afraid of. I just know that he is nowhere near ready for a toddler bed - we want to keep him in his crib as long as we can.

Okay! A Crib Tent II it is! I'm watching one on ebay right now - if that falls through, they have them at Kidsurplus.com for $64.

Thank you!
