I have been having problems with Nick taking our very heavy registers out of the floor and carrying them around, dropping them (once on top of a nice table). I have not discovered a way to babyproof them yet. But my husband apparently has. I wake up this am to find this... for all the registers in the house.....

Gee honey, if the registers fail to attract him the shiny duct tape everywhere will certainly do the trick.

Sounds like something that would happen in my house, LOL!

DD has so far left the registers alone. However, the dog got one stuck to his collar once and raced around with it hanging from his collar -- pretty funny, except for the dog who was stressed by this!

Seriously, though, what about double-sided tape like carpet tape or something that could go on the underside of the register?

The problem is the only the very edges of the registers actually touch the wood the rest is recessed so almost nothing comes in contact with the wood. Maybe I can find a way to fill that space in and try carpet tape, thanks!

Susan, your last couple of posts have had my in tears laughing. I totally feel your pain, but it is so stinkin' funny! :) Your husband sure does try, doesn't he?

Susan, you're going to have to stop with these posts, because every time I read them I come dangerously close to, um, dampening my office chair. You have lovely floors and registers, BTW.

Hmmm...how long until your DH starts repairing the Holtzigers with duct tape?

Ours are the same way. I don't know if it would work, but it would look a lot better (and be less enticing to little hands!) than the duct tape, LOL!

How about a double sided foam tape? It might be thick enough.

Melissa - the same thing happened once to our dog, too, and it was quite hilarious. At least to the humans in the house, LOL.

That is pretty funny. My ds plays with the registers, too, and it scares me so much because my friend's ds once was playing with a register and while it was out of the hole at an angle, he then tripped on it and sliced his cheek open, requiring many stitches. Yikes!

That's too funny. Your poor husband does try at least. Sadly we have major problems with Amelia removing the register covers around here so I certainly understand the problem. I can't tell you how many puzzle pieces, toys etc, I have removed from the duct on the verge of falling all the way in.

Thanks for the laughs! Sweet of your DH to try though. My DH just puts it back and stands with his foot over the thing till DS finds something else to do. Argghhh!!

Now I missed the Holtziger bit- off to do a search :-).

Susan, should we tell your DH that he can get BLACK duct tape? He is trying, though, you have to credit him with that. ;-)

Susan,

I think I married your husband's twin. I am sure they were separated at birth. You crack me up - because what is funny at your house does not drive me to laughter at ours!!!!!

Luckily Matty has not found the registers, so I am of zero help in offering an alternative!!

Too funny!!!

Susan, I had no idea what a register was, but I nearly spit out my dinner when I saw that picture! Thank your DH for the laughs. ;)

Never a dull moment in your house!:D I'm still laughing about the post when you jumped out of the bathtub in all your pregnant glory for the workers outside to see! I missed the Holtziger story, but just read the thread and I was totally cracking up! Susan, you keep me laughing!

BTW, Karoly doesn't know what a register is because we live in Florida!

Thanks, Elizabeth! My stomach is now hurting and I've used several pieces of kleenex wiping away the tears and blowing my noise. That is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time; the picture of the demonic turtle put me over the edge!

OMG! I ran into the crew leader that built my patio at the gas station about two weeks after I had my baby. It was one of those sleep deprived/stupid moments where you can't place the face with where you know them from, KWIM? So this man walks up to me and says " Hi, Susan, I see you had the baby" And I say "I'm sorry I can't remember who you are" (or something else stupid like that). Then he says " I'm Jsson from XYZ landscaping". Then I say "I look better now" (which at this point I really did not). Swear to heaven it just flew out of my mouth. He says something like " That's good, have a great weekend" and walks away. I am an idiot.

You're a crack-up! I just read the thread where you revealed that you can put both feet behind your head. Now I have the bathtub story and that image combined somehow - LOL! At least you didn't tell the crew leader that little fact!

I posted under the Holtziger thread and then had to find the one with this bathtub story!

That is hilarious !!

But seriously, you've gotta love your DH !! Mine would have thrown out the hotlztigers, and I don't know what all he would have done with the registers. Thankfully we are in FLA and don't have that problem. But, at least trying to peel the shiny duct tape up will keep DS occupied for a while !

You should write a book of short stories, like my mom's old erma bombeck books. Your posts are hilarious and totally hit home to so many mamas !!

Oh God No! He is totally utilitarian, At his old house he needed to fix a sliding door handle and did not want to pay the money for a new one. So he took a block of wood and attached a kitchen drawer handle to in the screwed the whole thing into the door. He also had the same swan shaped pink soap holder on the back of his toliet which he received for wedding gift 29 years ago. He doesn't think any of this is funny and he would not be happy about me sharing these things here, oh well.
