I thought I'd post here, just in case someone knows.

My SIL has ovarian cancer (diagnosed 2.5 years ago). She is wondering if there is a special diet to follow during chemo. She specifically wants to increase her neutrophyll counts, but anything that will help.. She is a strict vegetarian.

Thanks, Kris

I'm sorry to hear about your SIL and wish her a speedy and full recovery.

I don't think there is a special chemo diet, because to be frank it would be very difficult to follow. Chemo can make you feel very sick. It also makes things you usually like taste weird. My mom insisted everything tasted like metal. Her chemo diet was whatever appealed to her that day, and even then she had a hard time keeping it down.

One thing she could consider is consulting a Chinese Medicine Herbalist, and/or a Nutritionist. It's also possible a Naturopath could help her. If you've read any of Samuel's story (momandmepouch.com, Samuel's updates), his was an extreme case, but you'll find that Jen was successful in figuring out which foods would be very helpful for him. So there are probably things she can do to help boost her immune system, etc., but she will probably need to consult with someone to meet her specific needs, since everyone is going to be different and react differently to the chemo.
