Did any of you experience weird headaches?!? I just got my IUD on Friday. I had a headache that afternoon and everyday since then. At first I thought it was just sinus headaches, but now Im not so sure.
The pain seems to originate at the base of my skull, but I absolutely cannot turn my head or definitely not bend my head downward w/o shooting pain through my head followed by a constant throbbing.
Tylenol is not really helping and neither is sudafed....is this normal? Does it not have anything to do w/ the IUD? Should I call the dr.?!?

<ETA> It is a hormonal IUD....

Is it a hormonal IUD? I get headaches like that when I use hormonal birth control. But you might also see a chiropractor and just rule out a misalignment first.

I did have periodic migraine headaches for the first year after getting my Mirena IUD. I never really thought there was a connection, but mentioned it to my MW just in case. She called me a few weeks after that appointment, and said that the Mirena drug rep said that headaches are a possible side effect, usually subsiding about a year after insertion, which is when mine went away. I still am not sure about any connection. My headaches could've been caused by mothering three young children through a long Chicago winter!

I would certianly call your Dr, though. Good luck!

I have the Mirena with no problems. I had cramping "down there" early on, but never headaches. Check with your doc just in case, though.

I actually got headaches like that a few times before I even got the Mirena IUD (I was actually on no bc during the times I got those). They are scary headaches.

I've been told that headaches are a potential, often temporary, side effect of Mirena.

I'd go to the doctor to check it out. Do you have a fever at all? Not to scare you, but I had meningitis and it started out with a throbbing headache that got a lot worse when I tried to turn my head from side to side or bend my neck. Does it hurt worse when you bend over, cough, or sneeze as well? Can you touch your chin to your chest?

I had the Paraguard non-hormonal IUD and had terrible headaches. I had it inserted in February and they've just started to get better.

YES!! Makes me so stinking mad that the OB who inserted it continues to insist that hte amount of hormone is too small to give me headaches - WTF?! My headaches are not the same type of pain as yours (area) but are consistent and terrible - bad enough to make me seriously nauseas. THe only other time I've experienced headaches this bad and this consistent was when I was pregnant with DD.

No advice but you're definitely not alone!
