Hi ladies, anyone have a UTI while pg? Did you treat with antibiotics? I heard that if left untreated, it could bring on preterm labor? What were your symptoms?

thanks!

I had a bladder infection at about 40.2 days (oh, how I would have loved for that to bring on labour!).

It was agony and the doc did prescribe a/biotics. Felt the need to pee constantly, like every 5 minutes - even moreso than just being pg -- but nothing would happen. It hurt -- I was miserable.

Hopefully you are just asking for info and you don't have one! Get it checked and treated if you do, I say.

i was in horrible pain that at 23 weeks thought was labor and it freaked me out. when i got to the er(it was the middle of the night) they sent me up to l&d. they hooked me up to make sure that i was not in labor and then ran some tests and started me on some antibiotics while i was there and sent me home with a Rx for some more. the only symptom i had was feeling like i was in labor i had horrible pains in my lower belly. and then when i got there the nurse was nice enough to say to me "well you better not be in labor, at 23 weeks you baby will die" thanks alot lady dont you think i already thought about that!

and yes i also heard left untreated it could cause preterm labor.

I had one with Kaya at around...4-8 weeks? So pretty early. I needed to pee a lot and it hurt to pee. The OB did put me on antibiotics and it cleared up pretty quickly. This time around, I ended up with a yeast infection (but not a UTI, thank goodness) and he prescribed something, but I just used probiotics and it went away.

Any infection in pregnancy is a risk factor for pre-term labor. I would get it treated.

I had similar crazy pain around 24 weeks with my DS...went to the ER and it ended up being a UTI (I'd never actually had one). The pain for me seemed similar to early labor pains...some cramping. I felt kind of sheepish when it turned out to be a UTI. I was treated with antibiotics (can't remember the name).

I had one when I was in my second trimester. I read that they are really common during pregnancy. I did take antibiotics which my OB prescribed.

I had a UTI this last pregnancy. My symptoms were having the urge to go to the bathroom a lot and then not being able to pee at all or having very little urine come out. I took antibiotics that my midwife prescribed and it cleared right up.

The odd thing is I've had 2 cultures done a week apart, and neither show large amounts of bacteria or wbc's which would indicate an infection, but both showed blood and protein... I'm not feeling anything different at all, just peeing alot since I'm drinking cranberry juice to try and help... though I don't feel much relief even after I've just gone... so maybe it is a uti or something else that antibiotics would help. I would assume that it's safe to take antibiotics while pg?

I just switched to a new midwifery practice who will help me figure out what's going on... my first visit is tomorrow. My peri didn't want to treat it, and my primary didn't even want to talk to me... both said go see someone else. so frustrating.

That's pretty obnoxious. Yes, antiobiotics (certain ones) can be safe during pregnancy, but obviously you wouldn't want to take it if you didn't have to. Have you thought about maybe seeing an acupunturist/acupressurist? I have a friend who is an acupuncturist and during her last pregnancy she had UTI's and was able to get a fellow acupuncturist to treat it successfully so that she didn't need to take antibiotics.
