View Full Version : Cleaning wool Persian rug - pet vomit (sorry if TMI)

We have a couple of beautiful oriental rugs, one of which has been the target of pet vomit...twice! DDog just got sick and I blotted everything I could. The rug *looks* fine but I don't want to discover later that it stinks or, even worse, that the rug has actually been damaged by stomach acid!

How do I spot-clean an expensive wool rug after such an incident?

How often should we do a real cleaning, and how do we go about it?

Thank you!
Stephanie

For us it was doggy diarrhea. I cleaned it with gentle soap and water - blotting. I then called an oriental rug store, making sure they specialised in cleaning and they were a bigger upmarket store rather than a smaller operator. It's happened a few times to us, unfortunately one doggy prefers soft, plush rug rather than hardwood floors. We take ours in as needed, it depends on the extent of the accident, but about once a year I'd say. Check with them about how often to clean.
