One of my dearest mommy buddies is getting ready to celebrate DS's first birthday....i want to get him something nice and thoughtful, but he HAS EVERYTHING! They're the kind of people who buy anything and everything they ever wanted, which is awesome if you can do it, but it leaves me in kind of a bind trying to figure out what to get him. He definitely does NOT need more clothes...or toys...I really want to get something useful AND special...any ideas? TIA!

We got our nephew a personlized puzzle stool from One Step Ahead:

http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.jsp?lGen=detail&itemID=46&itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=46&change=117

It's $39.95, but does take 6-8 weeks for delivery. Really cute, fun, and useful!

How about Music CD's or DVD's. Or a signing time DVD? Or a nice instrument he can jam with??

What about a personalized book or CD. Amelia got a CD with songs including her name when she was one and she loved it. She had just gotten to the age where she knew what her name was.

How about a membership to a local children's museum, science center or zoo?

I posed this question a couple of years back for a woman who owned a specialty baby shop...

One of the members here suggested a subscription to Animal Baby

They LOVED it! A new little book came every month for a year.

There was a post a while back about personalized books from I See Me:

http://www.iseeme.com/

I ordered one for DS and they are BEAUTIFUL. The gift packs that they offer seem really cute too!

Good luck!

Not the OP, but a Wild Animal Baby magazine subscription is such a wonderful idea. As a mom who knows I'll be getting way too many toys we don't need for DS, I was looking to get other babies something useful/not too big as a gift. I just wish I had known about this for DS's two little cousins who just turned one. But even DH thinks it's a great idea. I already ordered a subscription for the next b-day party we've been invited to!

What about a membership to a local children's place like a zoo, musueum, indoor playground...

I knew someone would recommend the personalized puzzle and it'a great idea, but that's what SHE got me for DD's first birthday. She was employed for a long time at the zoo here and so she gets in for free and gets to do all the stuff free too. I'm going to look into the wild animal baby subscription. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Very cute! :)

I've also ordered personalized puzzles from Kid Puzzles:

http://www.kidpuzzles.com/

DS has the jungle w/name, the numbers, and I had ordered the Old MacDonald w/name as a gift for someone else. The quality is great--and I love that you can "re-order" missing or broken pieces.

HTH!

My dearest friend bought ME a classic silver "bean" necklace to celebrate DD turning one year, along with a card saying how I deserved congrats and recognition for making it to one year (it was a bit rough). I was never so touched in my life. Her gift for DD was fine and we used it but the necklace is what I really treasure.

We were given the personalized stool for DS's first Xmas and it has definitely been a hit (and a gift he still uses). Other ideas would be a personalized (or not) chair, like the Anywhere Chair from Pottery Barn, although I'm not sure what your price point is. And classic children's books in hardcover are always fabulous.

My college roommate bought one share of Walt Disney stock for my DD when she was born. It came with a very cute certificate that could be framed. I thought it was very unique, and right up my alley (I was a Finance major in college)!
