If you watch The Apprentice, you may know about the renovations that Ace Hardware will be doing for 10 non-profit organizations. Here is an article explaining it:

So, I wrote an essay for a local home for children that accepts no government funding and relies solely on private donations. They do this so they are not told who they can and cannot accept. They take babies and children with severe disabilities and special needs (for example, babies of drug addicted mothers). They have been struggling for years with the disrepair of their building and they were selected!! Here is a link to their website:

The rep from Ace Hardware let me call them to tell them the news and they were so excited!! I can't wait - they will be here in November and Bill Rancic (winner of the first Apprentice) will be involved in the project. This is so cool. They will do $5000 in renovations in one day and give another $5000 for whatever else they need - appliances, flooring, etc. They will be here November 13 and 14, 2006.

Just wanted to share my excitement!

You are a very special person to have thought of them like that. Of course the children needed that, but not everyone does what you did. Congrats Mama on a job well done! You made me smile big today, b/c I feel like I'm *friends* with a very good hearted person.

Give us details as it happens.

That is GREAT! Reading your post brought tears to my eyes. The residents of the home are very lucky to have someone like you think of them.

It will be awhile (November), but I will keep you updated and post about it as it approaches and is completed.

I'm actually so relieved that it is in November since hurricane season will be over then!

Kim,

Congratulations! You are a very special person to take time to do something like this. I know lots of people who have great intentions (especially me) and they never get off the ground. You should be proud for just writing the letter and doubly proud to have won. Please keep us all in the loop on how things go.

You go girl!!!!

That is so fantastic. I would be absolutely thrilled if I were you, and Russell Home! I so love it when people take the time out of their busy lives to do something that is completely selfless, and you did that. Thanks for sharing your excitement with us. :D

Congratulations Kim!!!

That is so awesome and you are a wonderful person for taking the extra step to write that essay and nominate that organization!!! And speaking of the essay, do you have a copy of it that you can share? I would love to read it!

Please keep us updated on this!

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of it. I wish I did since I really don't remember exactly what I wrote. I know that I explained what the organization does and the condition of their building. Maybe I'll call the Ace Hardware contact and see if he can e-mail a copy to me. If I get it, I'll send you a copy.
