Ok, that's not really the most perfect thread title, but it's all I could think of.

I just had a one hour consultation with a mom due with twins in early August. She wants both a birth and postpartum doula. She already has a 5 year old dd and is planning on an unmedicated vaginal birth with the twins. She's had an easy pregnancy so far and both babies are already head down which is great. She wants a postpartum doula for nighttime after the babies are born.

I thought I had zero chance of getting the job. The doula in charge of my postpartum doula training sent out a mass email to 65 of us doulas saying that a twin mom was looking for a doula. She gave us the mom's phone number and told us to call her if we were interested and available. I called her, left her a message saying that I was available and gave her the name of my website. With 65 other doulas getting the same email I didn't think I'd hear from the mom. But then I got a message on my phone from her saying she was on my website and that she wanted to set up a consultation. I called her that night and we talked on the phone for over an hour and set up our meeting for this morning. She said that a bunch of other doulas had called her, but most weren't available. I think my website helped a lot since a lot of the doulas (especially the newer ones) don't have websites. But by going to my website first she was able to learn all about me, my experience, my services, and my fees without having to call me and ask a ton of questions. I know I prefer visiting a website first so I can find out as much information on my own before having to actually talk to someone on the phone.

Yay, I'm so excited! Just thought I'd share. I have another client consultation this afternoon (1st time mom, due end of Nov) so wish me luck!

congrats, that's exciting! Weren't you on here asking about website names awhile back? It's neat to see that bringing you success.

BTW, you should add your professional website to your siggie - you never know when that might bring some customers your way. Plus, I'd be interested in seeing it :)

Congratulations!

I know I always like to check out a website and tend to lean toward *companies* that have them. I think that's how I found my doula! I'm pretty sure I checked out her website and then e-mailed her for the 1st time.

Thanks everyone! I got the job for the second consultation I had as well-- first time mom, due Nov. 26th. We talked for almost 2 hours and really got to know each other. It was a good day :).

Your website was very informative. I didn't realize that postpartum doulas could be mother's helpers! Great score!

Wow, your website is wonderful. During my first birth I looked for a doula and wished that they had a website. I also like how your services and prices are listed. I had to shy away from doulas when I saw the prices that they were charging. Based on your website, I would give you a call back.

Congratulations

Congratulations and good luck too!

I really think that having a website helps. The doula that we chose for this upcoming birth also had a website that I visited before the interview. I felt very comfortable with her when she showed up (based on what I read on her website) and chose her to be our birth doula.

Unfortunately, I was almost banned from the boards for having it in my siggie. I guess it is against the board's policies and apparently there have been "several" complaints recently and I was told to remove it or else.... Oh well. :( It's odd though, I had my web address in my siggie for weeks, and nothing was ever mentioned to me until I posted that "controversial" c-section article. Hmmmm....
