I am hosting a "Kid's Night Out" at church next week for 5-12 year olds (I know, its a wide range) and need recommendations for a good movie. I prefer movies with a message about honesty, compassion but still a fun movie. Any ideas? I was thinking of "Dreamer". Any others? Thanks!

I know it may be odd, but what about 'Shrek'? or maybe the Wallace and Gromit movie that came out this past year?

This is a little bit older, but how about 'Fly Away Home'? In case you're not familiar with it, it is about a 14 year old girl who uses a light aircraft to guide a flock of orphaned Canada Geese on their first migration. Stars Anna Paquin and Jeff Daniels. Younger kids will like the cute ducklings and older kids will enjoy the story. Just saw it (again) the other day and forgot how good it was! Nice story, no bad language, violence etc.

Would the car crash at the beginning be too much for the five-year-olds? I don't remember it being terribly graphic, but it might be a concern.

Great movie, though. :)

What about Babe? It is great for kids to adults and it is such a sweet movie!

Maybe "Because of Winn Dixie"? It is a really cute movie about the daughter of a Preacher whose Mom left and is forced to move around a lot because of her Dad's assignments. She befriends a dog in the Winn Dixie that she names Winn Dixie. Throughout the course of the movie, the dog brings her and her Dad closer together as well as the community. It is a really sweet movie and the kids I know seem to really like it.

There is a write up on www.imdb.com - http://imdb.com/title/tt0317132/plotsummary

I don't recall a car crash. This is one of those movies I've seen about 10 times but always seem to miss some key scene. I just FINALLY saw the very end last week. :) Yeah, I suppose a car crash might be a bit much for little ones - it's a shame because the rest of the movie is so sweet and, pardon the pun, 'uplifting'. (sorry, couldn't resist!)

I was going to suggest this one too! It's a really sweet movie with a good message about loss and making friends and acceptance. Nothing offensive (that I remember) or crude- just good family fun!

Ooh- I forgot about that one. I think I'll go with it! Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think I will go with "Because of Winn Dixie". I had to choose by tonight so I could publish the info in our church bulletin.
But I will keep the other suggestions. We try to have movie/pizza nights oftn and I am always at a loss for movie ideas.
