Well, DD has been a little off on her routine this morning because she woke up an hour later than usual. So we did our usual morning routine, and because there was still time before her first nap I took her to Target. She was in my sling the whole time and by the time I was in line to pay she was leaning her head on my chest and starting to suck her thumb. However, she didn't fall asleep on the way home which was great. I puttered around and she started to whine so I changed her dipe, which is the first step in our nap routine. Well right away she starts to whine/cry and distractions don't help. I walk into her bedroom and give her the lovey, and it escalates. She starts to cry and arch away, so I think oh you want to lie down. Nope. I put her down and she gets really upset. So I walk around for a while with the aquarium on and she calms down. But when I put her down for real she really lets loose. Well, there isn't anything I can do at this point except leave. All told she only cried for about 20 minutes, but it was pretty intense, and at the height of it I suddenly hear "Ma-ma! Maaaamaaaa!" over and over. Oh my aching heart. I start towards her room but when I peek in she is obviously winding down and now she's asleep. Sniff. I didn't want that to be the first time I heard my name :-(.

Oh, no, I am so sorry to hear your first "mama" experience was a heart-wrenching one. :( Hopefully she'll get very good sleep and when she wakes up, she'll say with glee, "Maaaa-ma!" :)

Hugs!!!!

Oh, that must have been heart-wrenching...

But hopefully only the first of many happy "Mama!"s to come.

Oh gosh, I am sorry that happened. I hope you can console yourself with looking forward to going to get her after her nap when I am sure she will say mama becasue she is so glad to see you!

my DD did the same thing! Her first mama was amidst her sniffles and whimpers! But, I take heart in the fact that she wanted me badly enough to say my name and when she was sad she wanted ME! I know it's not much of a consolation, but it's true!

Well, when she woke up I went to get her and she was happy to see me, but no "mama." Must've been a fluke. She's not very verbal, hardly ever babbles except when whining or crying, so not often.

Amelia used to say mama for a long time before she actually knew what it meant. I know it's hard to hear but I don't think she was actually crying out for you specifically.

I guess that's good to know. For this second nap I stuck around, patting her down while she was crying/screaming. It was actually worse than last time, but shorter. Go figure! Now's she's stopped crying, but is talking to herself. Kids!

Hugs, mama.
We never CIO but for months Abigail would only say mama when she was in her crib at night and wanted to be out with us. It absolutely broke my heart, which is probably why we never CIO. I always take her in the bed with me.

Ha! There are nights when I would LOVE to take Dora into bed with us, but she thinks it's playtime when we do that, so no cosleeping for us.
