I'm 34 weeks and she's been head down for at least a month, I think. We confirmed she was head down last week. But, she just had hiccups and I felt them on my side. I think she is sideways. Help! What can I do to turn her?

www.spinningbabies.com always has good info. If she just changed position, IMO that means she still has room to change back.

You can try swimming IIRC.

Chiropractic helps some people as well.

www.spinningbabies.com, pelvic rocks (hope I got this right... kneel on all falls and arch you back up, then flat, then repeat), crawl around on hands and knees (pick up debris and call it cleaning), lie on your left side. In the course of a week or two at the end, my baby apparently turned from facing one way (the ideal position) to the other way, and then back again, and I never felt any of it. You wouldn't think they could do that this late in the game, but I guess they can.

Having had a DD who turned **multiple** times in the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy, let me say that you would almost definitely feel something when she flipped. Lots of pushing and stretching on the side her head was moving on. Not too comfy either. If she is sideways, you might (should?) be able to feel her head on one side of your belly. That's how I knew DD had gone breach again, was when I could feel her head right under my breastbone.

I also felt hiccups on one side with both DC (and DS was head down and stayed that way). Ask your doc at the next appointment, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh no! I certainly hope not. Linnea had been head down and fully engaged in my pelvis. Then just a couple days before I went in to labor, she went breech. (I was having weekly sonos due to a difficult pregnancy so I that's how I found out.) Unfortunately, I went into labor early and the Dr. didn't have time to try to turn the baby. So I ended up with a section. Apparently it's incredibly rare for this to happen once the baby is engaged. While I felt some funny movements so it didn't entirely surprise me in one sense, I was still shocked to find out that she had flipped. You've got a few weeks yet so I would worry too much about it yet. Just have your OB check the next time you go in so you know for sure. I've heard good things about the spinning babies website as well.

Thanks so much to everyone who responded. I looked on spinning babies and did about 40 pelvic tilts every time I felt her moving around for that day and the next. The next night, I woke up feeling an odd movement again and the following day, things felt back to "normal" -- no more sensations that feel like little hand movements off to one side and no overall feeling of having swallowed a watermelon sideways.

Today, however, the midwife wasn't completely sure baby is head down -- she thinks so, and it matches with where the heart beat is, but neither end really felt like a head. We've scheduled an U/S next week to check for sure with a doctor who also does external versions, so it's one stop shopping if it turns out my baby has a lousy sense of direction.

Please send positive thoughts.

Thanks,

Have you also thought about going to a chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy to make sure your pelvic bones are aligned correctly?

I probably should. I know that I've been hip carrying DD on my left side for 3 years now and always wearing my bags on my right so I probably have alignment problems along the lines of Quasimodo. I was hoping to treat myself to a nice prenatal massage instead, though.

Do you know any such chiropractors in the area?

Not off the top of my head, but I can ask my own chiropractor. :)

I am 30 weeks and I have a sideways girl who likes being horizontal across my tummy instead of vertical. It has me so stressed out. I just started the exercises on Spinning Babies.com and I am having a couple of extra sonograms to see if she turned. I try to stand and walk a lot and I stick my belly way out. But no.... she likes it sideways.

I hope she turns for you. And please give me any recommendations to what works for you. I'll be chanting some turning mantras for you. ;-)

Sending you some "head down" vibes, too.

I've been finding that the pelvic tilts in sets of 20-40 while baby is moving also help my back feel better. Here's hoping that the baby spinning works for you. I need to work on the posture and sitting suggestions, too -- whether or not it spins baby, my hips and back could use the help.

Fingers crossed,

Baby girl has a good sense of direction after all. Today's ultrasound confirmed that she is head down (and, reassuringly, that she is still a girl -- if that had changed, I'd want to know). Thanks to everyone who sent "turn-baby-turn" thoughts.

In other news, a Physical Therapist has discovered the reason I've been having hip pain and baby seems to only want to hang out on my right side: the ligaments on that side of my pelvic bone are so loose the bone "floats." My right hip is actually visibly higher than the left right now. This accounts for all of the pain I've been having only on my right side, and perhaps puts me at risk for pelvic separation. I start a treatment plan to address it tomorrow -- hopefully we can get things evened out so baby will move into a better position for both of us.

Oh yay! That is good news. I hope you're able to get your pelvic situation worked out before the birth!

I am so glad she turned for ya! I hope your hip recovers soon and you won't have any problems there.

I had to see a PT too! They were a huge help. Sending you lots of prayers and healing thoughts!
