View Full Version : How do I stop DS's jerking arms from waking him?

At night, we swaddle DS in the Miracle Blanket, and he sleeps for up to 8 hours. However, according to the instructions on the packaging, it tells us not to swaddle for more than 10 hours in a 24-hour period, so we haven't been swaddling him during the day. When he naps, his limbs occasionally flail about and jerk him awake, so he isn't able to sleep very long. I've tried wrapping his arms next to his body in a receiving blanket, but he always stretches and raises his arms, so that pulls the blanket on top of his face, and he ends up crying. I've resorted to letting him sleep in the swing, because his arms are somewhat confined in that small space, but I would like to get him in the habit of napping in his crib only.

Anyone have any good ideas for keeping his arms down?

I wouldn't worry about swaddling for naps. They put the warning on the packaging so that parents aren't swaddling 24/7. We swaddled for all naps and night time for about 7 months. If it's keeping your DS from sleeping, just swaddle him.

Swaddle for naps. If he's sleeping, a swaddle is okay. If he's not sleeping, he should not be swaddled.

ITA with PPs. We swaddle for all sleep...daytime and nighttime. And when he gets fussy in the evenings, we swaddle him (and then he's asleep within half an hour.)

Swaddle him during his naps. :) The warning on the package is so parents don't think it's okay to leave their baby in a swaddle when they're awake. That's all.

Thanks, everyone! You've been so helpful. Hopefully this will help DS take decent naps during the day.
