Here are some Gwennie-ism's:

puckle = puddle
tividee = TV
bunt = button
beddy-bunt = belly button

Overall Gwen's speech is very good, but she consistently uses these. I think they're too cute. What are some of yours?

Coffee is "hot". As in, "More hot, please!!".

I used to tell him my coffee was hot (which it is) to deter him from wanting some, but it did not work, obviously.

My dad's cigarettes are "yucky". I am pleased about that :)

Made a minit, I ga it! = Wait a minute, I got it! Makes me laugh every time.

baee inky= Baby's Binky

Tchiamens= Giants (as in they might be giants)

Bidamenchens= Vitamins and when you ask her how many she gets she says "Dos!" instead of two.

mike = music
'tar = guitar
pa paw = grandpa
moblerlycle = motorcycle
bi-cull = bicycle
bah = banana

He used to say "addy" for airplane, but now he says it correctly. He also said "tat" for cat for a long time but he usually gets that one right now, too. His speech improves daily and sometimes I get wistful for the cute mispronunciations, but it's awesome to see him grow and change. Fun thread!

Here are a couple I remember from my niece as DD hasn't developed any of her own yet.

apopane - airplane
seezoe- sissors
nahtmommie - Not Mommy
Untatroys - Uncle Troy's

Nahtmommie and Untatroys were both names that my niece called me before she figured out what my name *really* was.

A few cute words Carrie says:

logur = yogurt
ta-peeya = caterpillar
mah-yo = tomato
teee! = Carrie

She doesn't have very many, because she's the type of kid who generally waits until she can pronounce something correctly before she actually says it out loud. On a side note, it totally amazes me how much language she's picked up just in the past 4 months! Just in the past week she started using the phrase "not sleepy!" at bedtime. (Along with "potty?", "water?" and "more book?" in an attempt to delay bedtime as long as she possibly can. Where do they pick these things up?!?)

At 14 months, Sean is quite the chatterbox! His vocabulary is about 5 words, but it's pretty effective, at least for now. :)

AHHH-Da! = All done (used when full or tired of sitting in the grocery cart) When he says it, he also does his version of the baby sign, a 2-handed milk sign where he opens and closes both fists.

Hi DeeDee = Hi Kitty! (greeting the cat)

Uh Oh = just what it sounds like ("accidentally" dropped something on the floor)

Doh! = No! (said with emphasis)

Ooh Ohh = Woof Woof (what the dog, cat, bird, and pretty much what everything in the animal kingdom says in Sean's world)

There are more sounds that he utters consistently, but I'll be darned if I have a clue what they mean! ;) Ah, toddlerhood! :)

Amelia has a few. Some she doesn't say anymore which I kind of miss and some she insists on using even though she could pronounce them correctly.

Current ones:

mongers=fingers
sawberries and nanas=strawberries and bananas
cicle=bycicle
ogurt=yogurt

Old ones:
gogi=yogurt and cookies
foofle=waffle

I know there are others but I can't think of them right now. I'll add more if I do.

I absolutely love these things, too.

DS:

poovie= smoothie
cootah= scooter
fwetty= sweaty ("I no like being fwetty, mommy.")
fwimmy= swimming

DD:
eyes= glasses
blblblb-ower (like when you give a raspberry or zerbet)= flower
meaty= milk (actually milky)
Bubba= brother
Cole = any baby or child (since the neighbor baby is named "Cole")

Dinana = Diana

For the most part, her speech is very clear. When she says a longer phrase, she sometimes repeats a syllable, as in:

"This is Mowwy's Grandmamother."

And like most toddlers, she has a harder time with "L's" and tends to use the W or Y sound (depending on the word).

boove - move (although she says other M words fine)
gobblelum - goblin (from Little Bear, we're not trying to scare her or anything!)

ETA: I forgot a couple

hold you - hold me
when - why?? (I'm still not positive, but I think that she's asking why when she says when)

Go-Go cheese = macaroni and cheese

chicken = chicken, pork, beef, meat in general
bines = vitamins
B'Shawn = baby Sean
Didi = Jilly
Unkie D B = Uncle Jimmy
My-had-it = I want it (usually repeated several times in a row)
Sma body = small blankie

And DD has the strangest southern accent when it comes to words like "hug" and "bug." They always get drawled out huuug, buuug.

belugwa= beluga (as in Raffi's Baby Beluga)
hangerber=hamburger
baltony= balcony

Love this thread!!

Here are some of DD's

Mo-mon-a = Grandma
pillr = caterpillar
onkey (rhymes with donkey) = monkey
ent = elephant
Elbow = Elmo
elmo = elbow
apple (also used for the fruit) = computer because we have Macs
Tines or Annie = Little Einsteins
Boo Koos or Koos = Blue's Clues or just the character Blue
car = car, tricycle, bike, motorcycle, shopping cart - anything with wheels
roff = giraffe
nanana = banana
cyril = cereal
tee = tree
seat = anything you sit on

Yesterday we gave her some fuzzy dice we had found and she calls them "ice". She tends to drop off the first letter of many words.

Some of his latest...

nos-res-es = rhinocerous
monk-ney = monkey
dee-ya = tortilla
bee-bees = blueberries

And my fave...
nuke = Luke (since he can't say "l"s)

Also, he has a little friend named Camille. But he apparently thinks her name is A-milk. He pronounces her name "uh-meel" but makes the sign for "milk" when he says it. Too funny.

This thread is too cute!

Maddie's vocabulary is about 30 words...she's quite the talker!

Ma-ma-ma = grandma
tom-tom-tom =stomp stomp stomp (From a song in the backyardigans)
Bobbo = Pablo
Ta-koo = thank you
aw-wee?? = oh really??
steeky = stinky
day = uncle dave
keedy = kitty (strong emphasis on the ee's)
pitty = pretty
uh oh = i just peed/pooped in my diaper (or she dropped something, but if she says it and she didn't drop something....it's time to get changed!

She's a goofball! She started talking really early and hasn't gotten quiet since! There's one noise we have yet to interpret (she says it all the time): galuh-galuh--no idea on this one, but someday we'll figure it out! it's usually in response to a question from someone......

Susanna is very chatty and most things she says are right on. But, she does have some humorous ones.

Ah-be-see-nor = Vacuum Cleaner OR her friend Alexander
AhhPop - Grandpa
Boon - Balloon
Rock-a = her primary daycare teacher

Jen, my Luke calls himself "Guke" since he can't do the Ls either. His friend Olivia (same age) calls him "Lute". It's a tough name to say, isn't it? :)

boobies = blueberries
neigh = horse
down-down = downstairs
mee-mo = oatmeal
mee-milk = nursing
bape = grape
kee-yo = Cleo (dog)
my-nee = Hermione (cat)
ah-goo = alligator
go-goat = yogurt
moo-wee = tv (signing time or baby einsteins)

There's a bazillion others, but that's all I can think of right now. Cute thread!

I just remembered a few I should have listed -

oh-puss - Octopus
ka-roo - Kangaroo, as long as it's a cartoon kangaroo or a drawing. If she sees an actual photograph of a kangaroo she calls it a fox.
sharsh - fish

The using sh instead of the 'f' sound for fish puzzles me because she can say the f sound - she calls a bath a faff, and she can say flower.

KBecks

BA! -- ball

Ba - BAAA! -- bicycle

BAAAA!!! -- bug

Baahh - BAAAAAA!!!! -- bye bye

Kkkkkkkkk -- cookie

Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma --- mommy OR daddy

Ha! Hi! Hi! -- Good morning! (said to the cat, and sometimes me)

He's a fun kid!!

Raidra
06-25-2006, 10:28 PM
Soup-n-man - Superman (love it when he runs around the house yelling that)

Go, Go, Cheese - Go, Go, Go for G, the They Might Be Giants song

Whack-you - Vacuum, as in "No whack you Mommy!"

Putz - Spot, as in "Me take Mommy's putz!"

He's also started saying things like carses, boatses, etc.. which his speech therapist says is a good thing, because it means he's paying attention to grammar and trying to figure out which words are the right exceptions to pluralizing (horses vs. cars, etc).

ETA: I forgot my favorite! Colwyn pronounces "enormous" as "norbus" - his favorite story is a retelling of a certain Higglytown Heroes episode where Pizza Guy drops the "norbus pizzie whole worl!" on the library. For those of you who didn't catch it, that was "the most enormous pizza in the whole world!"

bee bo -- belly button (courtesy of the Belly Button Book, by Sandra Boynton). DD also knows its a belly button (and will call it that if I correct her), but seems to prefer the term "bee bo" (truth be told, so do I, LOL!)

wus wus -- woof woof (as in what a doggy says)

moke -- milk

I must have missed this one when it originally posted, so sorry I'm late to the game here, but BB's are:

* punes = as in, "Mommy, look at the punes on my fingers" when he gets out of the bath and his fingers/toes are all wrinkled; this sounds a lot like the noise the Powder Puff Girls make in the Rainy Day episode... heh

* I can't want it (spoken very sadly) = I don't want it

* Madadasgar = Madagasgar

* paydough = play dough

* waining = raining

* brodder = brother

* Buzz Whiteyear

and an old one: dup = milk (this was from last year, but it's one of his I'll never forget for some reason)

Ella (drawn out) = elephant

Leo = Cleo, our cat

Lahr (rhymes w/ car) = water (DH and I both get a kick out of this one for some reason)

Ditsy = Lindsay (her name)

I know there are many more, but these are what come to mind. I just love it now that she is talking all the time. Most of the time I can understand her, but sometimes it's a mystery.

This is a great thread that I missed too!

Mari's funniest thing is that she makes all animal names diminutive. It started with our cats names, which she knows quite well but then she changed them:

Sheebie = Sheeba
Shamie = Seamus
Simie = Simon
Sasha = Sasha lol no idea why she didn't change it!

Penguie = penguin
zebie = zebra
etc... but then she will say others normally like "koala" so she must have some grammar rules in her head that she made up!

DD is just starting to talk, but I think these are so cute that I had to play:

bopple = bottle (previously ba-ba-ba- ba-ty!!)
bapple = apple
blalalala = banana
da do = thank you
pe = please
papapop = Pip and Pop (from Bear in the Big Blue House)
and "ok?" or "oooohhhk" to everything

My favorites from when my stepdaughters were little:

he-hiles = high heels
breakfix = breakfast
choclik = chocolate
ickgusting = disgusting
