Linnea is teething big time and I have some questions about how to make her more comfortable. I bought teething tablets a few days ago and while they seem to help, shortly after I give them to her, she vomits. It's happened every time. Now she has acid reflux and vomits regularly anyway, but this seems to be connected somehow. Has anyone else had that problem? Amelia didn't take to teethers much so I don't have much for Linnea. What teethers have you found to work best? I've also been giving her tylenol but I'm not sure it that's helping. Any other tips? The poor thing is miserable and it's affecting her sleep and eating, so I'll do whatever and buy whatever to help her feel better. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: teething tablets

If I recall correctly, teething tablets contain a milk base. Is it possible that Linnea has a milk allergy?

Mila loves to teeth on washcloth, actually any type of fabric. You can try a slightly frozen washcloth to ease the pain.

Yes, she does have a milk allergy and I didn't realize that they were milk based. That would definitely explain it. The washcloth is a great idea.

We use the Hyland's one. Is that the one you're talking about? It's homeopathic so I'm not think it has milk (so may not be the one you're talking about?). I lost the bottle so I can't look up the ingredients.
Frozen fruit in a Munchkin type feeder also worked for us. Even ice in the feeder was a hit with DD.

Yup, we have the hylands ones and I just looked at the bottle and the base is lactose. I had no idea. It didn't even occur to me that that would be a problem. I'll try frozen fruit in the safe feeder.

Yep, definitely lactose--I noticed that when I was looking for a dairy-free version for Kaya. Here's one that is lactose-free:

The other thing that worked very well for Kaya was an ice cube in a baby safe feeder. Much easier to clean than frozen fruit, too! :)

Well, right now I don't have any ice because the ice maker is broken (just need dh to attach new tubing) and the freezer is full so I can't use the ice cube trays. But I think I have some frozen fruit. I have to check. Thank you so much for the link to the dairy free teething remedy. I just couldn't figure out what on earth was going on. I guess I should have guessed since dairy always makes her vomit.

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions about the teething tablets-our dr. actually told us not to use them, but I can't remember why! :(
I wanted to add that we use Infant Motrin instead of Tylenol b/c it helps reduce the inflammation, which helps with the pain. (or so I was told!) It works for our DS. HTH!

I use the trick I read somewhere - just dip the corner of a cloth wipe or washcloth in water and stick in the freezer. The unfrozen washcloth is soft enough for baby to hold, the frozen end makes a great cold teether. I do this with my sherpa/flannel wipes and he loves the texture of the sherpa on his teeth.

Ooo, I've got some brand new sherpa/velour wipes that I haven't used yet. Off to put some in the freezer now. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm really surprised too. That was a really good call by the PP!
These boards save us so much time, no? Of course, I spend too much time surfing here so it doesn't put me ahead :)

We used the ones the PP linked to. I called it "teething water". It really, really seemed to help. I would also sometimes put frozen watermellon chuncks in a baby safe feeder, he loved that.

Regarding someone's doc telling them not to use teething tablets. It's probably because of the bella donna. Our old ped said the same thing. There is bella donna in them but it's such a small amount they'd have to ingest, like, a case of 'em to develop a problem.

Belladonna is used to make atropine, a drug used as a muscle relaxant among other things. It's use in this case is to relieve pain and inflammation. You definitely wouldn't want to overdose on them, but in this case they are safe to use.
