I'm totally stumped--what's that yellow line on the lower lefthand corner? It looks like a cable...for a cable car? Or is that too high up?

It's a border. :)

There are no cable cars in this area. :)

Is it a castle of some sort? Maybe Balmoral, in Scotland?

It's not in Europe. In fact, if you go here, you must show your passport for entry, but it is not stamped for any specific country.

Is it an air defense missle site?

cmdunn1972

It's not, but it is military. (Btw, that was a HUGE hint!)

In the US?

I was thinking perhaps a retreat of some sort, like Camp David. Of course you wouldn't expect to have detailed satellite images of such a sensitive location. Hmmm...

Nope, English has been spoken here in an official capacity, but it's not the native language. :)

cmdunn1972

It's not a retreat, but it is politically sensitive.

The symmetry in this photo is significant. :)

I was just going to say the UN headquarters - is that it?

I was just at the UN page trying to find locations to check out!

cmdunn1972

Nope. Wrong continent. The UN has a presence here, though, especially lately. :)

YAY! Right continent. :)

You'd be half-right if you said that this place has a friendly relationship with the U.S. ;)

South Korea?

I've been looking along the border but don't see this.

eta dmz?

Ding Ding Ding! Bonus if you can tell me the name of the town. :)

ETA: Panmunjom is the site of the negotiations between N. Korea, S. Korea, Russia, Japan, China, and the U.S. They take place in the small blue and white buildings in the center of the photo, which is the only land where parties from both sides of the border may co-exist.

It is possible to take tours of the DMZ, which I have done. However, access to Panmunjom is restricted when parties are negotiating. (I must say it's very eye-opening to drive down a road where wooded areas next to the road are chained off due to the presence of land mines.)

I picked this photo because N. Korea has been in the news a lot in these past few days.

Sorry, I'm exhausted so I gave you the answer to the bonus question above. I'm about to turn into a pumpkin! ;) Night night time for me. :)

Thanks, Erica! I thought it was pertinent. ;) It's not a very big site, is it?

So nice that you could participate in the challenge rather than host this time. :)
