We are going to Monterey with some friends and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a family friendly hotel? We are hoping for a suite or cottage...something that gives us some space.

TIA!

ETA: It would be great if it could be close the aquarium. :-)

DH and I stayed here several years ago and loved it. Don't know how family friendly it is but it is very close to the aquarium. hthhttp://www.spindriftinn.com/

I recently stayed at the Embassy Suites in Seaside - it's a few minutes drive to the aquarium though.

I was thinking about staying there...did you like it?

We've stayed there a few times using Priceline. All the hotels have been pretty good- Doubletree, Victorian inn (my favorite in terms of proximity) and the Hyatt.

I did like it - it's very nice. I went there for a meeting and was very pleasantly surprised. All the room doors are on the inside and there's a big open area in the middle, if that makes any sense. They probably have some pictures. It's very big and corporate feeling, so it depends what you like, but I didn't mind at all. It's definitely not the intimate B&B feel. But the rooms were pretty big, comfy, clean, I was very happy. They also had a buffet complimentary breakfast with tons of choices, and a very nice dining area at the bottom in the center of the big open area. I didn't take DD, 'cause I was on a business trip, but I saw lots of kids that looked happy. I would try to a room high up that faces the ocean - it's a terrific view!

One thing, though, it's not really within walking distance of anything interesting, except the Starbucks and some chain restaurant like Applebees or something next door.
