Wow, that's the coolest looking picture!!! It looks like an island in the middle of a lake. Maybe an ancient volcano? Maybe in South America?

Not South America.

Possibly a lake/crater made from a meteor? I'm stumped, but I still think it's a really cool picture! :)

I'm not sure why, but I'm thinking this looks like tundra -- something near the pole. Maybe I'm just wishing for cooler weather though, it's hot here.

You are on the right track!

This is definitely not a tropical location. Permafrost is probably year round here.

ETA - now that the challenge has been solved - I am really curious as to how you clued in that this was a tundra location?

Okay, how about some place in Siberia or Greenland? (I'm too lazy to look up maps right now. ;))

That's it! Congratulations!

I just stumbled upon this pic tonight as I was contemplating posting a different location. :-) I had never heard of Manicouagan before and there weren't many Google Earth markers, so I had to get in close and scroll around to even find the name of the lake. This one to me is truly fascinating. :-)

Ha, ha, I was just looking up lakes and craters in Canada! Hadn't gotten to it yet. Thanks!

Not sure about Karen, but when I looked at the picture with DH, we thought some of the white stuff might be snow and although there was green in the picture, it didn't look that lush, if that makes any sense.

ETA: I think this has been one of my favorites--it's just so unique and cool looking.

There are 5 craters in the Northern Quebec/Labrador regions so I had to look it up to see which one it was exactly. I couldn't remember the name although I learned all about it back in school. I personally like the New Quebec one, it's a complete circle.

This is a great website that shows all the meteor craters around the world; http://geology.com/meteor-impact-craters.shtml

Thanks for the hunt :-)

FYI I have found some markers in the "Google Earth Community" section that weren't anywhere else.

HTH! :)
