What colors are in for kitchen decor right now. I like almost all colors, so I am having a hard time deciding.

ETA: Our cabinets and hardwood floors are cherry and our counters are granite-tropical brown(black and tans)and the appliances are stainless steel.

I would also love to hear some thoughts on this topic....we are getting ready to remodel the kitchen in a home we just bought. Thanks for the original post.

This may sound silly, but a lot of times when I'm deciding on colors, I just flip through the home depot or lowes ad for ideas. And then of course, HGTV is great for inspiration as well!

I personally prefer the darker cabinets (cherry) and warm colors for the countertops.

Anyhow, HTH and good luck with your decision!

Well, what's trendy is brick red, butter yellow and sage green. Trendy appliances are stainless steel, counters are black or tan granite or engineered stone.

Our kitchen is butter yellow, but we have midnight blue granite-look countertops and black appliances. It's bolder than most kitchens, but we like it. We have it decorated in a subtle Tuscan style with art and accessories featuring olives and vines.

ETA Our cabinets are oak, which is really "out." But we didn't want to replace all of them, so we made it work. More popular choices for cabinets are maple, hickory or cherry.

nm, I see you meant paint colors, not kitchen appliances, cabinets, etc

Your kitchen colors sound a lot like my old kitchen except our granite was Uba Tuba (black, green, gold) - we picked up on the goldish from the granite and went with a sunny, goldish yellow...here is a picture...

HTH - good luck and have fun picking a color! Color changes a room like nothing else! ;-)

Jess, you have a beautiful kitchen! Thanks for the photo! Our new cabinets will be white Shaker style...trying to lighten up a dark space. Anyone have suggestions for colors for the wall and counters? The floor is tile. Anyone have photos of their kitchens they want to share or suggestion for a good website with photos of kitchens?

Thanks!

Alyssa,
What colors do you have in the rest of your house? Especially the rooms leading into the kitchen? this might help you to narrow your choices. It sounds like you have some really nice features to work with...hardwood floors and granite countertops. Have fun picking the color and let us know what you decide.

Once you have an idea on colors, get the Benjamin Moore sample cans. They are about $5 each, well worth the investment of trying out different colors in the room. Trust me they never turn out how you expect, especially if you go with a yellow color (learned the hard way.........)

Michelle,
Did you find a yellow that you liked? I am thinking about yellow or green for our kitchen.

Our interior painting is currently in progress. We have maple floors and cabinets that are stained cherry. Our countertops are "Brune Slate" laminate from WilsonArt and our appliances are stainless. We went with Olive Branch from Benjamin Moore. The first coat is on and it looks great. I will take a pic when I get a chance and show you. By the time I get to take a pic, the second coat will be done, so it will look even better!

We just painted everything. Our kitchen is now a pumpkin color, which I LOVE. It's very warm and cheery in there. We're going to put a Tuscan-pottery-looking backsplash. Yummy.

The rest of our house is painted mushroom, which is an off white.

we fall into the 'butter yellow' category as well for our kitchen (whole great room for that matter). i'd describe it as more of a vanilla shade personally. we are 'tuscan' too. i have some tuscan landscape watercolors done by an artist friend with rich greens, sunlit blue skies and rich earthy browns that tie all of the colors together. my woods in the rooms are more of a warm honey or natural cherry color (as opposed to the dark cherry - not sure which you have). everything (mouldings, windows, sills, ceilings) is trimed in a crisp white. window treatments are a rich green (not as dark as forrest, not as light as sage - sorry, hard to describe). white appliances and countertops (would love to change, but can't justify the investment since we know we'll probably only be in this house another year or two). anyway, i love yellow, especially in smaller spaces - it is just so cheery and light and really opens a space up IMO. in addition to trying the color on the wall befor you commit, i'd also advise to consider trying one gradient lighter on the sample chip than the one you think you like best. i find that my eye is drawn to the brighter/midtone color on the sample chip of 5, but when it goes up on the walls, i'm always happier with the second to lightest color on the chip. i think this is because having it on our big walls (up to, but not including the vaulted ceilings) really intensifies the color.

Try #148 or Montgomery White (which is actually yellow). They look beautiful! Our old kitchen was 148 and we've got Montgomery White on a lot of walls now.

It's hard to see, exactly, but here's Montgomery White:

Rachel, Thanks for the photo. All three rooms have nice colors. I love color when I see it in other peoples homes, but I am always so afraid to do it myself. I guess I just need to be brave and try it.

It's fun. :) The closest room is red, which doesn't show up in the photo. It's Benjamin Moore Spanish Red. The other two are Montgomery White and Old Gold. It feels very warm and cheerful here.

I can't find a good picture, but I painted my kitchen a fairly dark purple and just love it. It is Sherwin Williams Wood Violet.
