So I got the Dyson for upstairs (all carpet) and am about convinced to get the Kenmore canister for downstairs, stairs, upholstery etc. Do I need a third vacc for quickies? If so, what do you think I should get - a lightweight corded stick style? Or a handheld cordless(like the black and decker)

Thanks for the advice!

That really does depend on you. Personally, I would be much more frustrated if I didn't have my Black and Decker cordless. It wasn't even the expensive one. It was the 9.6 V one and although it doesn't hold a charge for more than ... 10-15 minutes? ... it's perfect for whenever crumbs are dropped, litter is scattered, etc. We keep it charged in its cradle all the time and love having it.

I also LOVE my little cordless vac. I don't use it for heavy duty cleaning but it is perfect for spilled cereal or tracked in dirt!

thanks ladies :) I am sure that is probably what I will go with. For some reason I got hooked on this Eureka Optima (it's sooo cute! LOL) and am trying to find a reason to get it LOL but the cordless quickie makes much more sense.

I wanted a dust buster (the hand-held cordless vacs), but DH has a very bad back, so bending over was not in the cards for us. With that said, we have a tiny light-weight stick vac (the Eureka Boss Bagless w/ optional brush roll). It was a wedding gift from some catalogue gift book, but I got one for my dad for under $25 at Kmart. I use it to pick up large debris, dirt and dust in my ceramic tiled kitchen and foyer right before I mop. They're all a little loud, but they sure do work well.

Here's what it looks like, but it doesn't say if it has the brush roll, which I do use:

What I like is that the handle detaches so it can be used like a hand-held dust buster.

Growing up I always had a hand-held dust buster at my dad's house. He loves his....probably a Black & Decker, but they can get expensive!! I've seen them average $29-40. DBs are easier to use to get messes off higher places, such as spider webs in ceiling corners, crumbs off a table or couch, etc. I haven't ever used our stick vac for couch cleaning....but we don't allow our pet or eating on the couch anyways. But I have hoisted the stick vac into the air to suck out cobwebs. Always very funny.

Good luck deciding....Ms. Mean Cleaning Triple-Using Machine!

Thanks Larissa - I always value and enjoy reading your well-thought out thorough advice :)

Yeah, new house (being built now) so in my head I must keep it looking new with all new tools of course! LOL
