I am constantly amazed how beautiful our planet is from so many different angles.

I can't even begin to guess where that is, but you are right, it is amazingly beautiful! Thanks for showing us such pretty places!

Good guesses, but too far north.

Nope. Still too far north.

Mt. Hood, OR? (I'm inching southward. ;))

You need to do more than inch. :-)

Hawaii?
It looks sort of like a black sand beach (maybe).

My next guess is Pike's Peak, CO

Nope, this is on a continent.

Am I on the right continent?

I'm starting to wonder if we're somewhere in the Andes. ;)

I still say it looks like a black sand beach.
Are we in Central or South America maybe?

It has a crater look to me -- either a meteor strike or a volcano? And someplace with a lot of iron in the soil, to get those bright orange swaths...... hmmmm.

hmm, i'm seeing volcano(s). looks like at least 2 separate cones (double cone)? with ice caps. maybe new zealand? off to check...

ETA: nope, not new zealand, definitely looks more like south america... the andes somewhere?

ETA again: sigh. no luck for me tonight. definitely think it's the andes probably on the chile argentina border. spectacularly beautiful to goole over... like stained glass flower bursts in the most vibrant teals and rusts. thanks for making me look - you're right, one easily forgets how beautiful our planet is. i look forward to seeing where this one ends up being...

You're right, it definately looks like oxidation. Also the lack of vegetation makes me think either very high elevation or close to the pole or both.

Antarctica, perhaps? (I'm not inching southward anymore. ;))

YES!

This is along the Chile Argentina border, just west of Sierra Nevada. The actual name of the mountain is Cerro de Piedra Parada. I had a REALLY difficult time chosing which mountain to capture as there are seemingly hundreds of fantastic choices. If you cut Chile in half from top to bottom, this is close to the midpoint. Coordinates are roughly 26,26 and 68,45.

And, Alicia, you are right about the black sand since the area is/was highly volcanic. :-)
