Sorry if this isn't the right forum. It didn't quite seem to fit in the others. DS is 14 months and still likes to put pretty much everything in his mouth. But I know a lot of people do crafts with littles ones even younger than he is. We're starting to try a bit more structure to the day (like music time, dancing time, reading time, arts and crafts time). Today we tried painting with water just on construction paper and also in those coloring books that turn colors with just water. I wouldn't call it so successful since DS pretty much just wanted to eat the paintbrush...

So, I'm not sure any crafts will really work. But I know some people have had success with stamping and some kind of non-toxic molding clay around this age. Just looking for some ideas. I don't think crayons, magic markers, or anything like that will work yet, but I'm not exactly sure what to try.

Take a look at this book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0876592221/sr=1-1/qid=1155615817/ref=sr_1_1/103-6750729-7329419?ie=UTF8&s=books

It has art activities for very young toddlers. Many use recipes using ingredients you can get at the grocery store so no need to go out and buy a ton of art supplies. HTH

I'm not sure this is what you are looking for, but we just got First Art by Striker and I love it. It has a great philosophy on approaching art from a different perspective. It sounds like it has a similar message to the book the PP mentioned (which I just ordered from my local bookstore!). But it isn't full of projects to do with the kids, it's more about how to introduce what and when and why and how. HTH

What about fingerpainting? You could always do it with something edible if you thought he might be inclined to eat it.
