Ok, that's just weird. Is the landscape actually like that or is it an effect of the mosiac?

Is it somewhere in the Amazon rainforests? Those are all clearcuts or small farms that are along roads. I've seen closer-scale images of roads driving access to lands for logging and farming.

I agree it looks like the Amazon. DH told me to tell you excellent guess. We found images from the 90's through 2005 that shows the damage from logging etc.. it looks a lot like this image.

The first thing I'd see in the morning had I passed out face first on shag carpeting the night before.

For those interested, I found this Google Earth portal that focuses on forest management/clear cutting: http://www.forestcouncil.org/googleearth
Upsetting stuff.

Yes, this is clear-cut Amazon rain forest. Pretty disturbing stuff, especially considering this is a tiny bit of what has been done.

I hope nobody minds that I brought up such a controversial subject, but when I was looking for places to post I thought the Amazon River/Rain forest would be nice. I was shocked when I could see the de-forestation from a much greater height than I would have expected. It really hit home how destructive clear-cutting is. Growing up in Montana, I had seen the result of clear-cutting practices, but nothing to this extent.

Remember... buy only Shade-grown coffee. It is one little thing you can do today that can make a difference.

Whoa. Crazy pic.

Trader Joe's sells well-priced shade-grown organic coffee beans. It's the only coffee DH buys and he drinks it every day, so I assume it's pretty tasty.
