DS is 21 months. Next Thursday is his last day of in home daycare. August 28th he starts a new preschool program (it's all day, so it is still daycare, but it is in a preschool setting). His class is 6 children who are between 18 months and 2 years. We didn't switch because of anything bad with the current daycare. We love Sandy, except that he seems to be surpassing what she can offer him intellectually and DH and I really wanted DS in a religious atmosphere/program with certified teachers where he can really begin to learn. When we told her, we wrote a really nice letter about her care (she is great for infant care--lots and lots of personal attention), and that we are sorry to be leaving. My question is, should we get her a gift to give to her on DS's last day? and what should we get her? DH thought an American Express Gift Certificate would be nice. Also, should we bring something for the children who are still with her (there are 6 other children)? DS will still go to her as a babysitter as needed and on days the preschool is closed (teacher meetings etc...).

Thanks if you made it this far.

DDs last day at her current daycare is today. She is moving to a "Weeschool" program on Monday. We got a Bath and Body works gift basket with lotions and a candle for both her lead teacher and assistant teacher from the 1-year old room. She transitioned to the 2-year old room about 3 weeks ago and we also got a candle/potpourri gift basket for her lead teacher in that classroom. They had been rotating assistants so we didn't get anything for anyone else in that classroom. We also took in a tray of cookies for the entire staff earlier in the week.

We wanted to leave on good terms because we aren't unhappy where she has been. Just like you, we wanted a different atmosphere and emphasis. We are likely to use her former daycare for drop-in care a few times a year when her new one is closed and they also offer sick-child care that we want to have still available to us.

Maybe there is a toy or equipment that she could use for all the kids?
Maybe a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble for books for the kids, or
a toy store or something?
