Saw this in the paper, had to share:

Dear Amy: A friend of mine recently received an invitation to a "shower." The invitation was fancy, with flowers, ribbons and bows, just like a real baby shower invitation would be. Except that it was for a doll.

The rest is at this link, it's partway down.

Wow... yeah... I'm not really sure what to think about that.

That's weird! Her answer was hilarious though.

That's just too much. But I also think the American Girl stores where you can take you doll to shop, have a tea party and watch a movie are over the top. I like the dolls, but is a store with events necessary? What ever happend to playing dolls at home with friends? I suppose I just don't get it and I don't think DS will be interested in going, so I probably never will.

Love that answer! Sadly there probably (no, definitely) will be something even sillier coming down the pike.

I personally don;t care if the mom wants to let her dd take her doll to the zoo or whatever. What is annoying about this is that she is soliciting gifts from friends for no occasion at all- just because her kid has a doll.
Give me a break.

That by far is the tackiest thing I've ever heard of. Good response from Amy.
