Our humidifier really needs a cleaning - I wasn't good about emptying the water every morning and it's gotten a bit slimy. It's a cool mist humidifier w/a nebulizer, if that matters, and the instructions say to put a bit of bleach and some water in the tank and shake it to clean it, or you can wipe it down with vinegar and water. I would rather just run a mixture of vinegar and water through it to really clean it all out. Can I do this or will I ruin something? I was thinking of running it outside so we aren't breathing in vinegar :) Thanks!

I would just follow instructions and wipe it wipe it with vinegar and water. When I left vinegar in the bottom part of our humidifier where the warming elements are to get rid of the calcification, the air did not smell too nice when we ran it after that. That's after washing the part that had vinigar with water so I can't imagine running mine with vinegar in it. We had a humidifier from Sharpers Image, not sure what kind, sorry. Hope this helps.
