...if my dd finds a sock on the floor, she will pick it up and smell it.

My DD has taken to *ripping* the hair out of her head because she sees me pulling the dead/stray hairs on my own head when I dress in the morning.

Too funny.

My DD now licks her pointer finger & uses it to pick up bits of cinnamon sugar, salt, etc. from a plate or her high chair tray.

I always do this when we have cinnamon toast at home. Oops.

Also, she started calling me "you big silly Goose" last week, every time I did or said something that she thought was remotely amusing or out of the ordinary. I'm afraid I'm guilty there, too. :)

I'm curious to see other little quirks that our kiddos are picking up.

DD toddles around the house with her own purse. She has so far inherited 2 from me- & this week started insisting on taking them to daycare.
She loves 'talking' on a cell phone- since about 10 months she'd put it up next to her ear & say "hayo?"
Oh, & lately, she's been grabbing my wallet out of my hands when I try to pay-= & actually pulling $$ out!
If this is where we are at 14 months, what's gonna be at 14 years???

DD straightens the rugs if they become bunched up. She also loves to take a cloth and "wash" tables. Hopefully this streak will continue. =)

DS1 will rip the "reply cards" out of magazines. We get old issues of Car and Driver for $0.10 at the library book sale for him and he has to go through and take all the "tags" out first.

I have bad ecsema in my ears, which is gross. I can't stand seeing people put their fingers in their ears in public, but sometimes the itching is too much to bear, and I'll sneak a little scratch. The other day, DS started scratching my ears. Great.

My DD tries to drink milk (after cereal) or juice (after fruit) from the bowl. DH swears she learned this from me. It has caused a few messes in our house!

We use cloth wipes and I have a wipes warmer with an inch or two of water. Take a wipe out of the basket, open the warmer, dunk wipe, wring wipe, clean up DS. Last night DS did the exact same thing, except the wringing, and he wiped in the right place. He just kept dunking the cloth in the water and wiping his penis. There was water all over the chaning table, but it was very funny to see.

I sit on the potty she sits on hers, I wash my hands and she pretends to wash her hands at the big toilet. I dry my hands on the towel, she dries her hands on the blinds. Very funny to watch.

Not so positive, but funny, I have an exasperated "ARGH!" that I use when DD or DS has made a mess and she thinks it is funny to repeat.

When DD poops or pees on the floor I used to say "Oh, Maddy!" Guess what she says now after she has an accident? In the exact tone too, makes me feel awful. :(

Because dh leaves stinky socks all over the house, and dd likes to play with clean socks out fo the laundry basket (and then leave them all over the house).
Smelling determines which of the two I have encountered.

With a parrot, I mean toddler, in the house you hear phrases repeated which you never realized you said so often...

-when the baby cries DS1 will say, "I'm almost done."

-just as DS2 is latching on, "Open your mouth."

-"oh my gosh!"

Not me or DH, but the dog taught DS the proper stance for urinating.

I pick up the dog messes, now whenever I get out my shovel, DS grabs his and runs to the lawn to pick up the messes. The first time he figured out where the messes come from, he ran up the dog, lifted the dogs tail and put his shovel in the appropriate spot.

If a cat gets on Ishy's train table, he will push it off (gently) and say, "Giddown!"

(He learned this from watching my mother get a cat off her lap when it's jumped up there and she doesn't want it there. I proclaim my innocence! :P)

Cute thread! DH took DD to see a movie and asked her what she wanted for a snack at the concession counter. DD put her hands on her hips and said rather loudly "Only one treat! Popcorn or candy, but not both!" DH says it was a spot-on imitation of me.

Whenever I take off my shoes, I smell my feet.

So now, both kids immediately smell their feet after
taking off their shoes. :)

LOL, this is a hilarious thread!

Today, I was sitting on the edge of DH's yoga mat that he had laid out after his class. Kaya picked up is yoga towel, laid it nicely on the yoga mat, carefully started folding the two together and when she got to me, she said, "Bump, bump, bump, bump...."

It was pretty funny because that's what DH does when Kaya deliberately stands on the yoga mat as he gets it ready for class. It's become a game for them.

Also, whenever I say "Ow!" about something, Kaya will come over and kiss and pat it and say, "All better!" Lately my hip/coccyx has been hurting and Kaya will come over and kiss my butt. :P And yes, she's kissed my feet, too.

I don't remember ever saying it but when DS goes to use the potty he often sits down and says "Oh my goodness, that was close!"
DS picked up more things from the dog though. He now barks at the neighbors, scratches his head with his foot and pees in the yard.

oh, I taught DS to pee in the backyard. I didn't realize he would think that meant you could pee in anybody's backyard. (or off the neighbor's swingset in the middle of a birthday party. one little girl said to me--you better clean that up! :-))

I am thanking my lucky stars he has not picked up the swear words that come out when I am under stress. In fact, he will say "No mommy, it's not a %$#@ coffee cup"--after it spilled all over the top of the car.

I encouraged his bug habit by taking him on nature walks. Now our bedtime reading consists of the Jr. Audobon guide to bugs and various bug books that talk about the meanest, grossest bugs on the planet. I do not want to know this stuff!!!!!

My favorite was when his best friend was trying to play tea party with him and we was making animal noises etc and she said "Shut it, Benny". Her mom and I just about died it was so funny. Her mom knew were that came from and she confessed the story at work. So now at her work, when somebody is being particularly annoying, they will say, "Shut it, Benny". They even say it to their family members! My son is now living in infamy!! We had a dual yard sale and several people from her work came. The first thing they wanted to do was to meet Benny:-)

I never comment on other's messes but I will often at home say something like "Your room is a big mess! Let's clean it up!" (in reference to say, not putting away his train set) or after dinner say something like "The kitchen is really messy, we need to tidy it up and wash the dishes right now". Good right? I am teaching him to clean up. He likes to help pick up and I have a clean house and a tidy toddler to boot. Whee!

Well, once we walked by an open door in J's apartment building and Toby announced something like "That is a really big mess, someone needs to clean that dirty mess up". He said this loudly, loud enough for the person in the apartment to hear him. I was mortified. And he will do the same thing at my parents' or friend's houses, start to pick up the mess while announcing that it is a mess. In the exact tone I use when talking about our own house and routine cleaning. Next lesson for Toby: Keep your mouth shut about other people's messes.

My son has picked up a lot of interesting habits from school, some more positive than others.

From his teacher, he picked up the practice of licking his finger before turning the page. Also, he likes to take the teacher's place a storytime, and hold the book for everyone. This means he tends to read books point away from himself and showing them to others.

From his teacher he apparently also picked up his favorite phrase these days "I don't think so!" When we mentioned it to her she turned red, so we assume it came from her.

From a girl in his class, who has hair that's always getting in her eyes, he picked up her habit of brushing her back over the top of her head with her hand. Only on him, it looks like he's always going "Whew!" when he does it.

From another kid he's picked up the curious habit of asking in a very polite tone "Who farted?" or "Who burped?" whenever he hears a suspect noise (even if it came from him!)
