Do you think John Mark Karr killed JonBenet?

I haven't been following this closely, but from the snippets I've seen, he sounds as if he's just some wacko who feels the need to be involved in this case.

I wouldn't mind seeing anyone involved in child pornography, even those who only view it, locked up for life, though, so if he's wrongly convicted, my only real concern would be that the real killer is still unknown.

Is there any real evidence against him yet?

I initially thought as you do, that he is just some wacko. But then I saw on some obviously reliable show ;) (think Extra or ET) that he signed his high school yearbook with "Shall Be The Conqueror" and the killer signed the ranson note "S.B.T.C."
That made me think maybe he had been involved, or at least that I shouldn't rush to judgement.
I am interested in seeing how this plays out.

If his DNA matches that found under her nails then I think I would beieve it, but right now I don't know what to believe.

I don't know because honestly we haven't heard anything yet that would link him to the murder. He has apparently been "known" to the authorities for some time, and supposedly confessed to a woman (who contacted her local police) several years ago. That to me, seems to imply that they don't have much to go on or they would have charged him long ago.
I am, of course, hoping that I am wrong, and the DA is just biding her time.
One thing is for sure, for someone who may just potentially be a wacko seeking attention, he is receiving far too much of it.

That's what I'm waiting for myself. I'm surprised they aren't making a bigger deal about when the DNA test results will be available. It seems like that would be a more factual answer to the question of whether or not he did it. (Although I don't watch/read mass media news that often, so perhaps someone has been making a big deal about that too.)

I tend to agree with Alicia. i think he's getting exactly what he wants right now....sick sick man...even if he didn't do this particular crime.

the most interesting part to me is the SBTC thing. the other thing that is interesting is the conflicting reports on whether he knows about markings on JonBenet's body that weren't released to the public. I have heard numerous reports suggesting that he knows things about the condition of her body that the masses don't...but then i heard the autopsy (which is public) didn't leave out any details on markings....i'm not sure which is accurate. I hope the DNA results come back soon.....

I think he at least knows something about the crime. I hope he never gets out of jail, either way...

I, like the pp, don't know what to think. I keep hearing conflicting results. He had admitted to aspects that the public didn't know, but then they don't even know if he was in colorado at the time. His ex-wife says that she can't remember a christmas when he wasn't with the family or left shortly afterward. I mean, it's all just getting too confusing. Right now, I'm going to go with the fact that he's a nut-case and needs to be put away. Hopefully he'll go to jail for something, anyone who goes to jail for anything to do with kids gets whats coming to them.

Actually, the DNA they have already is compromised. The DNA found in her underwear only has 10 exemplars, when a "good" or "complete" one would have 13. The DNA from under her fingernails has been questioned (and will be torn apart if it's ever brought to trial) because they used one clipper for both hands, when using one clipper for EACH hand is protocol.

While I'll admit that Karr looks like a good suspect, I am convinced he's the wrong suspect. Apparently the DA has filed a brief a few days ago that said they have brand new evidence that they just discovered two weeks ago. Obviously, we don't know what that is, but there have been "leaks" that it is something he specifically knows about the body that hasn't been made public (some say it has to do with the head injury that killed her, some say there was something done to her face that only the police and killer would know). I have heard handwriting analysis experts say that he did write the ransom note, and others that say he didn't. Whatever the evidence, his family and his ex-wife (who apparently hates him and is said to have no reason to want to help him) insist that he was never away from them during that Christmas. If they can't prove he was there (which I have a hard time believing they can, based on what I've read/heard) ... apart from a match in DNA which I would bet money on won't happen, they're done.

I am not convinced that he is the one! We'll see when the DNA stuff comes out! Beyond everything the guy is a real wacko!!!

My Dh thinks that he was arrested in Thailand for something he knew he would end up getting the death penalty for so he claimed to be Jon Benet killer cause he knew it would get him sent back to the US and possibly get him off the hook!

It's all so screwed up.... he parents, the crime scene, the evidence being tainted! What a shame! She was a beautiful little girl!

I agree with your DH. That's what I have been thinking myself. I think he was looking for a way out and knew he would be extradited and it would be highly publicized due to the nature of this case.


He's sick whether he's guilty of this crime or not.

I don't know if he is the killer or not but I do think the SBTC stuff is interesting and also the Teddy bear stuff is interesting. Apparently there was a Teddy Bear found on JonBenet's Bed the next day and no one new where it came from. The professor that he had been corresponding with for some time had an e-mail with a picture of Whackado holding a bear that looked very similar to the bear found on her bed. That is really icky... If nothing else he obviously a NutJob and probably belongs in prison for something I just don't know if this is it...

Nope. He is a freak show with a fetish. I really wish the media hadn't leaked anything until they were positive (dna match, other evidence) that he was the killer. All they did was give him the attention he wanted and a free plane ticket here.

Agreed. One of the reporters on the Today show asked, "Guilty sicko or innocent wacko?" Based on what we've seen so far, I believe it's the latter. However, I reserve real judgment till we learn more. Also, the guy was asked in Thailand amid the sea of media, "Are you an innocent man?" to which he replied, "No." I think it's a forgone conclusion that regardless of JonBenet, that's qutie true, as well.

I think the LA county DA was looking into having him extradited for the child porn charges he skipped bail on. So, maybe, he'll be off the streets. I'm sure parents everywhere would feel safer without this wacko running around!
