View Full Version : Saddest thing

A couple of days ago the doorbell rang and my DH went to answer the door. It was two girls, about 12 years old, who asked DH if they could tie a pink ribbon around our mailbox to honor their friend who died (DH ofcourse said yes to that). My husband told me this and I just started tearing up. I've been thinking of it ever since and our neighborhood has pink ribbons all over it.

I've always thought that one of the saddest things has to be losing a son or daughter. But, I never thought of what it would be like to be a pre-teen or teen who has fully grasped the concept of death and has to come to terms that they will never see their friend again. I can only hope that by them by putting ribbons everywhere that they will work through this, get some strength from this simple act and honor their friend.

BTW, we don't know the girls nor the girl who died or what she died from. Someone told me that a pink ribbon usually means cancer.

I was home when they came by and saw the girls tie the ribbon to our mailbox and then go on to walk around our neighborhood. That image is embedded in my mind.

That is awful. What nice girls to do such a simple but respectful honorance of their friend. This event will surely change their lives.
My heart goes out to them and the young lady's family.

That is so terribly sad... I hope they can find some peace.
