I would like to announce the birth of our Daughter Lucina Amelia Rose

Arrived August 27th
4:53 a.m
8 lbs 7 oz, 21.5 inches long

Thanks to many of you for your prayers. Let' s just say I put them all to good use and they were answered with thanks and tears of happiness.

My water broke on Saturday at 2 a.m. The goal was to stay at home as long as possible. The contractions were 10 mins, then 5 mins, then 3 mins. So I got up called the Sitter, the Doula etc... Then they stopped and went to every 25 minutes then every 10 mins.

We decided to go into the hospital at 4 pm. At 8 pm after16 hours since my water broke the Doctor refreshed me of the risks and I had to sign all types of waivers and papers saying I wouldn't sue the hospital. My Strep B was negative. I wasn't sick or running a fever. I knew my risks. I wanted some time.

I asked for 1 hour to try to get things started. I tried everything. Nothing worked. So at 9 pm we started Pitocin. My cervix as super soft and they seemed to think that I could still deliver vaginally. I however had a complete breakdown. Crying like those crazy women who wear all black and wail loudly. I was so scared. Disappointed, feeling like a failure, and just plain terrified. This wasn't suppose to be like this. The 2nd delivery was suppose to be easier.

So the Pitocin started and the contractions got stronger and longer. I decided against and Epidural, knowing my risk of c-section would increase if I got one. The contractions were finally 5 minutes apart when our L&D nurse checked me at 3 am she said I was only 7 cm and 80% effaced. <Insert breakdown #2> All that work and only 7 cm? What was going on?

So this amazing L&D nurse decided to check me further... there was another fluid sack behind her back that still had a lot of water and was preventing her from moving down the birth canal. So they call in the Dr to break it. He does and things move along.

I looked at the clock it was 4:30... I was determined to have her before 5 am. I had already been pushing since 1 am and was beyond exhausted. I actually slept the 1 minute between contractions. Finally at 4:53 am Luci came into the world. As calm as can be. Perfect! Beautiful. She was nice and pink and very calm. Looking around and gave a very petite cry.

I had a minor 1st degree tear which is better than I had w/DS (I had a 3rd degree w/him). When the Nurse finally took me into my Mom & Baby room, DH came in there and thanked me for all the hard work. Then I broke down and cried again.. releasing all the fear. I'm glad it all worked out and we got this wonderful gift in Luci.

All of our nurses were great! We got super lucky and had one of the largest Mom & Baby Rooms in the hospital. And being that this is our 2nd child, the nurses were much more relaxed etc... It made for a much better experience.

We are home now and Curt is getting used to his Sister. So far he thinks he's a cat and has tried to pull off her beenie several times. Luci is nursing like a champ. We will be resting tomorrow.

Lori I was going to email you later today.

The pelvis is not great. The pubic bone area is extremely sore and painful. I am having problems walking. I am calling the Chriopractor this a.m. and this alternative massage therapist who specializes in post partum Mothers.

My Dr. seemed to blow off my concerns like they were normal and no big deal. This was frustrating. I'll see how soon I can get appts and try to take care of this issue so it doesn't get worse.

Thanks for asking. I'll probably PM you later and get some advice. I'm off to go make those appts now.
