Do I have it configured wrong or something? Suddenly I'm getting trojan horse downloaders and things are s-l-o-w around here. I miss my Mac. Sigh.

Can you tell what the name of the virus is? Ewido and AVG are from the same company, so they might be missing this particular one. I generally just google details of the problem and some nice nerd somewhere would have instructions on how to fix it. ;)

Try downloading and running virus/spyware programs. I've had to go to alternate software from time to time when my primary software is missing something.

Some good ones-
http://www.safer-networking.org/ for Spybot S & D (search and destroy).
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ for Ad Aware.

Micrcosoft also has some removal programs on their site.

But be careful about running two anti-virus programs at the same time. It is common for them to each view the other as a virus,, and start "fighting". The probem is they then take over the system resources and nothing else can happen. Things either get incredibly slow, or they even lock up altogether.

I don't know too much about computers so correct me if I'm wrong. I do a lot of online shopping and searches on bargain sites. I realized lately that my computer was extremely slow and ran lavasoft. It caught over 60 tracking devices (from coolsavings, overstock, ebates etc). After getting rid of these, my computer is much faster. I would suggest give that a try.

HTH!

I'm running avg and I have a trojan horse I can't get rid of either all of a sudden. I've updated it every few days too so I wonder if it's recognizing something that is ok as a virus. It's listed as generic.xdr and in a windows file. What about your's?
