Any recommendations on a power toothbrush for my 5 yr. old? Also - at what age can you start using them? Would it be ok to use it on an almost 2 yr. old? I haven't looked at those kind of toothbrushes yet, so I'm not sure the age recommendation for them. Just curious. Thanks!

I have a GUM brand Elmo and friends electric toothbrush for 2 year old DD that she LOVES! There were 2 differnet choices for toddler electrics, and I chose the one that made less noise, since I know DD gets freaked out by loud motors (trash trucks, vaccums, etc). :) No recs for an older child, though. My one complaint would be that you can't change the head on these toothbrushes, which seems very wasteful. I'd like to get the adult kind which lets you just change the head as soon as I can for DD.

We have the Dora one, I think it is Oral-B? DD loves it and loves brushing her teeth. :)

We have the same one. I, too, get frustrated over not being able to change the head, but you can change the batteries. Doesn't make sense...

Dentist gave us an electric spin brush for DS when he was 1 and urged we use it over a regular brush. DS loves it.

Our son just uses our electric Oral B with his own brush/head. Has been since he was 2 or even younger.

I use one with Simon (21 months). He loves it and whatever makes brushing his teeth easier for me. He has a Thomas one right now and he's in heaven. Crest Spin Brushes are the most common, but anything would work, so I would just let your kids pick out the design they like the best and will enjoy :) That's my professional opinion at least :)

Our GUM ones have replacable heads. DD's is about a year old tho, so they might have changed it, but we've replaced the head several times (she likes to chew on it).

Another vote for the Dora one. Both kids love it.

My DD started using an electric toothbrush when she was a little over 2 years old and she loves brushing her teeth now. She has a Dora and a Belle one.

When I took her to her first dental checkup/cleaning, the dental hygenist commented that she can usually tell when kids have been exposed to the electric toothbrush because they tend to be less afraid of the cleaning instruments they used at the office. DD had a blast and enjoyed her first visit very much.

We've used an Oral B since DS was 2, and it makes brushing much easier for everyone involved. Easier for him to use by himself (although I always "touch up" the teeth once he's done).
