Hi there! I have been a lurker and occasional poster for about 2 1/2 years, but now I am in need of some support . DS is 2 1/2 old and DH and had been discussing trying for number 2. I had a back fusion done in early May and was cleared to start trying last month. Good news is that apparently we hit bulls eye on the first try. Bad news is that is is really 4 or 5 months too soon. Hey, I am 37 so things are supposed to get harder! We think we conceived in early August, but I had a period in Mid-August. I know this can happen ocassionally. Went to the OB yesterday and in internal US was inconclusive as far as gestational age. She did see something There are 3 options, of which 2 are not good

Option 1: I am at 9 weeks but something is wrong because we should see a hartbeat

Option 2: She thinks I may only be 5 weeks along, BUT she thinks she detected 2 yolk sacs. Not good for me as my back doctor does not want me to carry twins as my fusion will not totally be completed by my due date.

Option3: One yolk sac at 5 weeks. I am really hoping for this scenario!

I am supposed to go back for another US on Thursday and I am dreading the outcome

First congratulations!!

Have you had HCG blood tests taken (a couple days apart)? While they aren't reliable for diagnosing gestational age, the hormone progression can tell you if it is viable and if the possibility of twins is more likely.

Hpoefully you'll get some more clear answers at your next u/s. Good luck and please update us! I'll be sending positive thoughts your way!

i'm gonna second lisa about getting the beta's done a couple days apart so you can see your #s. Did you have a regular u/s or a level II in a hospital? I hope you get some good news soon! Big hugs!!!!!
