Well, we had a great time. We got there early while the band was still practicing. When we got to the gate everyone knew who we were and they were so nice to us. We went over to where the band was warming up and the band director came over and gave Brendan a Ravens (their mascot) t-shirt and led him over to the drum line. One of the girls in the band held him on her lap while the drum line played for him. Of course, the drill team girls fawned all over him. It turns out that Ed had read my email to the entire band, flag, and drill team so all of the kids already knew Brendan's name and were so welcoming to him.
When they were ready to take the field, they sent us into the stands to the reserved band section. We then sat there and got to watch the band on the field, they then joined us in the stands and they were all so sweet. The senior drum major came over and showed Brendan how to direct and asked him to help him when they were on the field. They let him touch their instruments and ask questions. They let him try on their hats and even fed him some of their snacks. The band director had arranged for the Ravens mascot to come in the stands and meet Brendan specifically, so Brendan got to go down and meet him.
It was Homecoming so the half-time show was the crowning ceremony and the band moved their half-time show to the end of the game. As the band left the stands, they all walked by Brendan and gave him high-fives! Brendan ate it up.
As they were announcing the half time show the announcer said, "Please welcome the band's newest honorary member 2 and 1/2 year old Brendan XXXXX. It was so neat, because Brendan recognized they were talking about him and just lit up! Then the band director's wife took him onto the field and let him sit on her lap right up front for the whole show.
Needless to say, it was a fantastic night. I am so touched by all of the effort that they all put in. We are planning on sending a picture of Brendan in his Raven's shirt and some money to help fund their trip to New York for the Veteran's Day parade where they will be the only high school band West of the Mississippi playing!
Thanks for letting me share this amazing mommy happening!

Hi,
My name is Chris XXXXX and while I am a counselor in the XXXXXX
XXXXXX schools, I live in your attendance area. My son, who is 2 1/2
years old, is obsessed with musical instruments. We can hear your early morning practice from our house and he is so thrilled. Well, last night he slept through the night without waking me up and this morning he went to the bathroom like a big boy (if you know what I mean :)) and I promised him we would come watch marching band practice. Well, as you know, you were not outside practicing this morning and he was crushed! Could you please let me know when you will be outside practicing again. I promise we will stay well off to the side and not be a distraction in any way. The truth is he is so awed by music that he will just sit quietly and watch as long as I will let him.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my strange story and request.
I hope at the very least it gave you a little chuckle. Please know that if you are still around in about 13 years you will have a young man coming to your class who desperately wants to learn how to play the
contrabassoon!
Regards,
Chris (and Brendan) XXXXX

Hi Chris
You made my day. We'll be on the field Friday morning. We won't start
doing what Brendan wants to see until about 8:45. We would love to have him come out. We'll take good care of him!

You are wonderful for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately,
parent-teacher conferences are this week and I will be unable to come on Friday, perhaps we can catch you next week on Tuesday or Thursday. I can not thank you enough for taking time to respond. I know that your days are incredibly busy as an educator.

Hi Chris
Actually, I have another thought. I have a Ravens shirt for your son. If you guys want to come to the game Friday night vs. XXXXXXXX West, we'd love to have you sit with us. If you're interested, I'll leave passes for you at the gate.

Tell me BBB mamas isn't that the sweetst thing???I swear when we get there I am going to kiss this man on his lips. What a wonderful gesture that is so far above and beyond. I can not tell you how many times I have gotten all misty eyed over this. (Brendan is pretty excited too!)
Thanks for letting me share my little slice of happiness.
