I have an OLD OLD OLD laser that is slower than Christmas and you have to feed each sheet manually. We had an Epson Stylus 3-in-1 that was great - printed b&w, color, and copied and scanned. It died and I have no idea why. After spending a lot of cash on ink jet refills (thought that was the problem - it wasnt) I think it just needs to be replaced. Any suggestions? I would like one that can do it all and be used as a fax machine also. I'm not looking for a laser printer to do this - that would be incredibly expensive but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Momma needs a Christmas list, too! :)

Mine is a couple of years old, so I'm not sure if the model is sold any more, but we have an HP 2210 (printer/fax/scanner/copier). We haven't had any problems with it, it works great, and the price was good (bought it at Office Max or Office Depot).

We have a Canon multifax and I love it. One nice feature is that the colored and black and white cartridges are separate (so 4 different cartridges) and they're about $10 each. So if you run out of cyan, you don't have to replace the entire color cartridge. In any case, the print quality is quite nice, even by my DH's picky standards and we've now had it for maybe 5 years or so and it's still running well.

we have a great HP 4 in 1. We got it at Costco. I hate epson printers as a whole.... have had nothing but bad experiences with them!

Hmmm...hadn't thought about Costco. Was the price much better?

My old laser that keeps chugging away (albeit slowly) is an HP. Come to think of it, it is nearly twelve years old!! (wow time flies). Guess I can't complain if it is time to replace it. It is a model "6L." They must be on something like 27Q now (making myself laugh)

I had an HP 4 in 1 that I really loved until DH let DS (when he was about 1) pull some part out that couldn't be fixed (no one will fix this stuff anymore!)

We ended up replacing it with an epson 4 in 1 and it's fine for printing, scanning and copying on paper. But I used to be able to print good photo prints on my HP and I absolutely hate the epson ones, even using their paper and modifying settings to get better quality. (Plus you can't print on anything BUT their paper - whereas I used Kodak paper on my HP all the time.) It seems to me that the ink goes faster, too, although perhaps I'm dreaming that.

At the office I have the newer version of the same thing (one of the PIXMAs). It does eat ink, but I can change one color at a time, like Eileen says. No problems with other functions.

We have the Canon Multipass F50 4-in-1 multifunction machine, and absolutely love it. It's a relatively quick printer (in B&W or Color), and superquick color scanner, a copier and fax machine with a sheet feeder (so you can make multipage copies or faxes without having to feed each page individually.) As a prior poster mentioned, the ink cartridges are all separate, so you replace them as you run out of each color (or black.)

We originally purchased ours based on great feedback in Consumer Reports plus other on-line reviews. It's been several years, but I'd recommend a new model Canon multifunction machine if there's one available.

We purchased ours at Costco saving $$ over the price at other stores.
