Hi folks!

I'm not due until June, but was wondering what things second-time-around moms found useful and not so useful. I'm just beginning to think about things I'll need (like another monitor), but I'm sure there are things I haven't even thought of!

One question I had was about a stroller. We have a great Graco stroller that fits our infant car seat & my current toddler loves it. What do you do when you have a new infant PLUS a toddler when you want to get some exercise???

This is the stuff I'm talking about!

Thanks,
~Lenore

I'll let you know at the end of December! :) Right now, we are struggling with how to configure the bedrooms (I don't want/need/can't afford another glider, but we still use it with DD#1, so do I leave it in her room or move it to the new baby's room?). My girls will be so close in age, so I will need another crib, and another changing station, another monitor, a double stroller (although I used a sling with DD for months so I won't really need one until spring/summer), a bigger diaper bag, a nanny, a personal chef, a house keeper, and a physical trainer ;) Mostly, I've been thinking of ways to prepare for those first few weeks with the new baby - food in the freezer and cash in the savings account for my unpaid maternity leave.

I got a second crib. I thought I'd need another monitor but have used our only one less than I did with only one kiddo, go figure. I put it in the baby's room because when/if DD wakes up, she'll happily play for a bit until I get her. DS--not so much. ;)

I didn't get a double stroller until DS was 6 months. He was getting mighty heavy to sling all the time but, more importantly, I like having a place to contain them both now even if it's only 15-20 minutes of the outing. Those 15-20 are usually necessary and definitely priceless, if you get my drift....

Congrats Lenore!

Stroller: I bought a double SBS. It makes life a lot easier, both kids like it. (It is a Schwinn so it wasn't too expensive)

When I just had a single I slung DS and pushed DD. Made for a good workout. :)

I haven't bought a second monitor but I need to. DS is still co-sleeping.

I need a new mattress for the crib too. I bought some new washcloths and new hooded towels for him recently.

A couple new covers for our CD's.

Yikes I know there is more...Aha! Found my list! I love lists..

I'm starting a similar list. So far my list of things we need to get are:

infant carseat
monitor (ours pooped out)
mini cosleeper (we sold the bassinet, DD outgrew it way too soon anyways)
swaddling blankets
Fleece Baby sheet (just ordered that)
breast pump (will probably rent and see if he even takes a bottle, DD never did)

I'm sure more will come up!

Congratulations Lenore,

My kiddos are 18 mths apart and I pretty much recycled everything. I did get some new burp cloths, receiving blankets, clothes, but that's mostly due to having a girl after having a boy.

It's fabulous that they will be nearly 3 years apart. That's because you can use a Sit-In-Stand stroller and that maybe enough considering your DC probably likes to walk some. My BF currently is using this for her 3 year old and 2 month old and it's working out well for them.

Things to consider:
Toddler Bed or Twin Bed with Mattresses
Potty Training before baby is born
A toy baby doll for role playing for DC
Another diaper pail for 2nd baby if they have a different bedroom or if they will be in your bedroom.
Other furniture needs such as dresser for clothes
Gifts for DC from baby
A sling or pouch

Best wishes and congratulations
Nancy

"a nanny, a personal chef, a house keeper, and a physical trainer "

I like your way of thinking!!!!
