Have you received a Babee Tenda invite? (Pin to 10-18-06)

Hi folks. We were contacted today by an attorney for the US Department of Justice regarding a lawsuit filed by the U.S. against Babee Tenda.

The Dept of Justice is looking for parents who may have received an invite from Babee Tenda that said or implied Babee Tenda's "safety seminar" is sponsored or endorsed by the CPSC or NHTSA.

If you have any info on this, please email the contact below. As you may remember, we wrote about this in the 6th edition of our BABY BARGAINS book and expressed our concern that parents were being misled into attending what they thought was a government-sponsored safety seminar.

The U.S. Department of Justice, in conjunction with the Consumer Product
Safety Commission, filed suit last year against the Baby-Tenda
Corporation. The complaint, available at

alleges that some Baby-Tenda distributors falsely claim that government
agencies, such as the CPSC, endorse or co-sponsor company sales
seminars. The CPSC does not sponsor or endorse any such seminars or any
manufacturer. The government seeks a court order banning these types of
misrepresentations.

Baby-Tenda distributors typically send seminar "invitations" to
expectant parents. If you have received such an invitation bearing the
CPSC logo or claiming government agency sponsorship, or if you have
attended a Baby-Tenda sales seminar where you were led to believe that
the CPSC or another government agency endorsed the products for sale,
please contact the Justice Department at [email protected].

We did receive an invite but it was earlier last year, before Dora was born. We didn't go because I didn't feel like trekking over and giving up a day. Luckily we read your book entry on them shortly after.

We received an invite a couple of months ago. I was pretty tempted to attend, but DH did not care too much about it. We finally did not go, 'coz I was not ready to pay the baby sitter just so that we could go attend this seminar.

I dont remember much details about the invitation though.

We did attend a baby tenda seminar and that is how I found his board! We bought something from them (knowing we had 3 days to cancel) and that night I googled "baby tenda" which led me to a link on this board!!! I bought the BB book the next day (after cancelling the purchase!)

We received one of the invites too. I thought somehow they knew we were expecting. Didn't go, though. I was guessing that they'd be trying to push sales of some sort of service or product.

We received an invite, but I honestly don't remember if it claimed any kind of connection to a government agency or not. I had *JUST* read about Babee Tenda in your book, and the wording on our invite was almost exactly the same! :) Thanks for including your warning, because I wouldn't have bought anything there, and I would NOT have been happy to waste a day like that!
