I started noticing that my DD had this thing on her eye lid about 4 months ago (DD is only 8 months old). It was really small and I didn't think too much about it. It pertruded a little and was alittle darker then her skin. Almost like a mole but it was bumpy. If that makes any sense. Anway, I made an appointment with a dermatologist and he told me that it was one of two things:

1. juvenile xanthrogranuloma
2. adnexal tumors

I had my DS with me at that time and it was quite hectic. They both had a cold and I was coming down with a cold also. I didn't really get too much information from him at that time and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about either of these. The dermatologist is on vacation this week so I'll have to wait a week to get some answers. I guess I am really concern because I saw there she had another growth between her eyebrow. It doesn't seem to bother her but I'm really worried about it. Will it grow bigger and will more show up. I know this is a long shot but I was hoping that someone at BBB would know. You guys are a wealth of knowledge. If anyone knows anything about this, would you mind posting it? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Sorry, no BTDT advice, but I hope that your appointment with dermatologist next week goes well. It must be very hard to wait that long for an answer. Hugs to you and your DD!

Hi,

I hope you are not getting really stressed about this. Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a skin disorder of nodules that are yellowish looking, and probably derived from some immune cells, but the cause is unknown. There can be multiple on one child. They are like 99.9% benign. The other thing your doctor mentioned is a tumor of the "appendages" of the skin: hair follicles and sweat glands. This is rare, benign, and can occur in infants.

I would say that I would recommend you see a pediatric dermatologist if you have not already. They tend to be at large children's hospitals and have greater experience with the rarer skin conditions of childhood. Also if it needs to be biopsied you are more likely to get an accurate diagnosis at a large medical center with specialized pathologists. (I am a ped subspecialist, but not a dermatologist, and obviously I can't give you real medical advice not knowing you blah blah blah disclaimer.) Also, do not google...

Monica,

Thank you so much for telling me in layman's terms. I've been really stressed out about it and googling didn't really help. I've made an appointment with a pediatric dermatologist but they won't be able to see us until January 2007. You've really made me feel a lot better. Thanks so much!!
