I went out to take some fall leaves pics of DD, and I can't figure out why they're so washed-out looking. If it helps, she's wearing the blue and green Hanna PD/DD from this fall (so you can tell how off the color is).

Some came out really good, and I really want to frame a couple, but the color is just so weird. Is there anything I can do (like photoshop? I have it but never used it)? Or do I just need to wait until it stops raining and take more pics?

I have no advice for you, I have photoshop installed on my computer and have yet figured out what to do with it. I just wanted to say your DD is adorable, those chubby cheeks are soooo cute.

You might be able to use some the "quick fix" features in photoshop elements, if you've got that.

I dunno.

The pics are super-cute - I especially love the last one!! Your DD has the best cheeks. :)

You can definitely play with and try to perk up color in Photoshop. I'm getting breakfast ready and I'm not very talented with Photoshop, but this is what I could do in a few minutes. I'm sure other people could do a MUCH better job! I'd be happy to try later today, but I'm almost positive someone else will have helped you by my DD's naptime. LOL I'll check back in then and see if I can help, though!

as for taking the pics... your light meter reading was done on her face, probably, which told your camera that it was bright instead of telling your camera that she was in a dark background. if you do take more, try to point the camera at a more average shade to tell it to go in between the brightness of her cutie face and the darkness of the leaves.

try taking a few by holding the button half way down on the leaves, then shooting, on her face, and then shooting, on her dress, and then shooting...

What a cutie! I only had a minute, but in the first pic I let Photoshop adjust auto-levels. In the second one I took that pic and played with the curves a bit to get the left side of her face to show a bit better.

I think adjusting the focus will help you quite a bit for future shots.

LOVE the PD on her. And she has fabulous cheeks!

Agree with previous advice, plus it looks to me like you might have focused on the leaves rather than her face.

What a cutie! You must kiss those cheeks all day long. :)

Just in case you've never tried it, Google has a great free photo-editing program called Picasa. It's very user friendly. I played with 2 of the pics a little. I'm going to try to attach them, but I've never done it before, so cross your fingers.

ETA- I don't know what that 2nd file is all about.

I second the recommendation for picasa. It's unbelievable how well it works for a free program and it's very user friendly.

I tinkered with the first image in photoshop a bit - this is what I came up with. If you like it great if not no biggie. Let me know when and I'll delete it from my smugmug and remove the link.

Edit: I tried to sharpen the image slightly but it looks like too much on one of my monitors and just fine on another - so I'm not sure what's up.
