I think I can safely say that I am the only person from Mechanicsville, Iowa here on these boards. It's about 1/2 hour from each Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, about 2 hours from the Capitol, Des Moines (s's are silent - duh moine) and about 4 hours from Chicago and Minneapolis.

About 40 minutes by train outside of NYC.
I grew up the next town over in Manhasset, and when DH and I started looking for houses on LI, he fell in love with the fact that PW is on the water. I fell in love with the fact that it's only 10 minutes away from my parents, who have been totally helpful (once we set some "parameters" of sorts as to calling before dropping by and such!).
So far we love this town and our location to the city and to my job on LI.

Hi Liz. I grew up in Port Washington, and my parents still live there. It's a great town, for many reasons, but I don't think I could ever move back to Long Island. Too much traffic for me, and I'd be too close to my parents.

Where do you live? I went to Salem Elementary School and grew up in a house on Country Club Drive (in the neighborhood across Port Boulevard from St. Francis Hospital)

that prices will come down even more. I LOVE Hoboken, but hate the taxes and parking situation!

I noticed it a lot more when I was in Boston than I do in the western part of the state - I remember that there was a car on my street (all city apartment buildings with on-street parking, so it was impossible to know whose car was who) with a sticker from my college (Miami U in Ohio) and I was so excited to see that. DH used to joke that I was trying to stalk the car's owner to find out who it belonged to!

We used to live on Hudson between 9th and 10th in a two bedroom condo, and then in 2000, we bought a brownstone (well actually a brick rowhouse) on Garden between 8th and 9th.

We always said we were going to move out of Hoboken in 3 years, and here we are 10 years later. Then we said we'd move out after our oldest finished 4th grade, and now he's in 4th grade, and we're not ready to move out. The longer we stay in Hoboken, the more time we spend thinking about how the suburban high school experience is not necessarily better than growing up in Hoboken. Who knows if we'll ever leave?

There are more and more families staying, and we just love the "walking" lifestyle. My car is three years old and has 20,000 miles on it.

We're on Locust Avenue, right behind the Library and across the street from the Landmark. So walking distance to everything in town and the water, which is great for dh with the train and dp (dear puppy) with the water!
And yeah, there is a lot of traffic... and I hear you on the parents thing... that was def. a little rough in the beginning! It seems to be okay now, but I have a really funny feeling that we may have a whole set of new issues when the baby is born. :)

We just moved from Olathe 6 months ago. We are in Orlando now. If you are a stay at home mom there is a wonderful MOMS Club in the 66062 zip code. There is also one in the 61 zip code but I'm not too familiar w/it. I so miss my MOMS Club friends. Let me know if you want any info about it.

Geochick, small world. I live by Down East Home off of 13th East. You?

Norah, we did meet up a long time ago when I was delusional enough to think I had the extra energy to CD. That was 3 kids ago between the two of us. How are you? I haven't seen you around much, and of course I don't post a ton. Hope all is well with your cute boys.

I'm so glad I figured out your screen name again. I wanted to email you months ago but I couldn't remember. I'll email you later this week now that I can remember your screen name and catch you up on our lives.

I think we should plan a moms dinner out or maybe a get together with the kids with the 4 of us (and anyone else who lives in Utah)

If you guys decide to do something over the Thanksgiving holidays, I'll be in town visiting my brother and SIL. :) They live in Holladay (which I don't know how to spell!) I used to live in an apartment over by the U before I moved to South Dakota. I miss hiking up behind there!

LOL! CO actually doesn't have bad winters at all compared to other places. I lived in Chicago and New Jersery and they were terrible. At least in CO you get some snow mixed w/50-70 degree sunny days in CO. Of course my parents have over 16 inches of snow on there deck right now but hey it was in the 60's yesterday and will be in the 70's over the weekend. Of all 9 states I've lived in CO definately has the strangest weather!
