Good luck, I say as I sit here looking at my Dell D510 keyboard with four, count 'em FOUR, keys ripped off. The fourth one just came off a few hours ago. This is my third keyboard in less than a year (thank you, warranty). The repairmen all claim that this is not a common problem, but I just can't believe it given how incredibly easy it is for my 2 year old to pull the keys off. Then, once one is off, the neighboring keys will loosen or shift, or our little devils (err, children) will use the empty space to get a fingerhold and pull more off.

My advice: call customer service and say one just popped off during normal use and can it be fixed for free. My replacements were done by a local Dell contractor coming to my house, zipping off the whole keyboard and zipping on a new one, which sounds like it would be expensive to pay for on your own.

Second, start shutting the laptop when you are done with it since that deters little hands. I was very slow to recognize this.

Third, to try to re-attach it, keep all the little parts. For my keyboard, there are two white plastic piece and one black rubber piece under each key. I had a very hard time re-attaching my keys (and couldn't do some at all) but basically, the white pieces kind of interlock. They put the letter key on top and press hard, kind of wiggling it up and down to snap it into place.

Christy, sometimes you can just pop them back into place, sometimes unfortunately you cannot! ;)

My laptop died on me last month and I sent it to Dell to get fixed, I was so excited when I opened it up and I had all my keys back!!!

No advice here. I tried for hours to reattach the shift key on my old laptop. Now my new one is missing the `~ key. DS is obsessed with pulling on them. :(

Sorry to chime in & say that my Dell is missing the 'J' & 'K' keys. Couldn't believe how easily DS tore them off.

Somehow I've gotten used to typing these letters w/the little "nub" instead of the key. I couldn't reattach the keys either (and trust me, I tried). Good luck!

I'm missing the shift key, the caps lock key and thankfully I got the A key back on 5 mins ago. It's been sent away once, and it needs to go away again. I suggest closing laptop and then putting it somewhere...we have a keyboard tray on our desk that it will fit in. I *have* to remember to do that!
