how do you explain in resume or cover letter a big gap in work due to being a sahm?

here is my sentence:
"I have been out of the full-time work force due to......."

* building my family

or:
"Since I have been out of the workforce for a couple years...."
and leave no explaination, this is for a cover letter

any help would be great, i just don't know how to state this part...

need replies fast, need to email this off soon!

I have been out of the workforce for seven years so take my opinion for what it is worth...

I wouldn't mention it on the resume, but somewhere in the coverletter I would say something like:

<After first discussing all your terrific experience and accomplishments>

"After spending the last X years managing my family, I am looking forward to once again successfully applying my skills and experience in a dynamic, growth-oriented company such as yours."

Or similar wording...

Good Luck,

Gina
