Dh's family complies a wish list of things they would like from the US for Christmas. Two of dh's cousins have requested soccer cleats. One pair is for an 8 year old, the other for a 17 year old. I would like to get them GOOD pairs but I have no idea what to look for, what brands are considered better, etc. Does anyone know?

It's been too long since I played soccer but I remember I always wore Mizuno cleats and they were considered really good.

I dont know soccor but with football we definately have the boys try them on. 3 different brands 3 different sizes for my oldest. Maybe mine is pickier even as his mom I would buy him a pair and bring them home. Where ever you get them make sure you get a gift recipt there is NOTHING worse than an ill fitting athletic shoe. Try Dicks sporting goods.

I just asked my brother and he said Mizuno is good for baseball and volleyball. Well why didn't he tell me that when I was choosing shoes for our soccer team.

Anyway, he said for soccer the good brands are Adidas, Nike and Puma. And apparently, David Beckham wears Adidas. :9

When I played soccer(14 years ago!), Adidas was always considered the best. I recall wearing the Adidas Copas which are still around today. Of course, there are SO MANY choices, even just with Adidas, so it can be overwhelming. I think I would ask the kids' parents which brands and styles they prefer before buying them. If you can't get any info. I'd go with a gift certificate to a sporting goods store and you can make a note that it's for the soccer cleats that they wished for. Good luck!

Unfortunately, they live in South America so gcs are out. I'm actually pretty sure they sell the same brands down there, but having cleats or pretty much anything from the US puts them at a higher social status, which is ridiculous because all of the shoes were probably made elsewhere anyway.
Dh's aunt asked for "American Aluminum Foil".

I second the Addidas Copas, but my opinion is from the same generation.

I do remember something about our league having regulations that the cleats be round. Apparently football and other sports have other shaped cleats that can be dangerous on the soccer field.

Good luck!

I don't play soccer but DH does every week. He has worn Nike in the past but now he wears nothing but Adidas. And he takes it very seriously, walking around the store for ages! He has different pairs for indoor and outdoor.

We usually go to this store in Chicago: http://www.chicagosoccer.net/

Good luck!

I grew up in Brazil where we eat and breathe soccer! :) I would choose either a Nike or an Adidas. You can't go wrong with either one of those brands. Good luck!
