Don't forget to get out there and vote! Democracy only works if you participate. Don't know where your polling place is? mypollingplace.org can help you find it. I'm not sure about other states, but here in VA polling places are open from 6am - 7pm.

Happy election day, everyone!!

Thank you, Ry!

You can vote from 7 AM - 8 PM in Maryland, and also during those hours in the District. We all count, folks.

We have already received 2 calls today. In the past month I would guess we have received 50-60 calls and 4 knocks on our front door. Has this been everyone's experience. I no longer have kids who nap but if did I am sure that the phone calls would get tiring!
Yet, I am happy for all the calls. Dmocracy in action is exciting.

I haven't received ONE call and I think it's sort of funny because my DH and I are registered with a party and involved in our local group. Not one call to vote. Not one call in support of a candidate or proposition. Not one survey. Very different experience than we've had in the past.

I'm not sure what it is -- maybe a variety of factors. We've moved recently, and our number is unlisted and on Do Not Call and I give out my number to as few people as possible. Plus, we never figured out the answering machine, so there's a generic robot voice saying "Please leave a message after the tone." I highly recommend those things if you can live like a shut-in. ;) We use our cell phones mostly and no calls to those either. Dunno.

In Arizona, our polls are open 6am-7pm. I almost missed 'em last time because I'm used to polls closing at 8.

Another great resource is:

http://www.vote-smart.org/

It's a non-partisan voter information site. If you put in your 9 digit zip code they'll tell you exactly who will be on your ballot, and you can dig deeper to find out their voting record if they've held office before. For incumbants you can find out how they voted on the Patriot Act, the Gay-Marriage Ammendment, the Partial Birth Abortion Bill, and any other special interest topics that you care about. Their websites are usually linked as well.

HTH!!

ETA: Go Vote!!
ETA: The site is super busy today, so you may have to refresh a few times to get your info. I'm currently looking up the ballot initiatives in my state. There's a menu at the top of the site that will allow you to find yours.

I went this AM and used one of the new electronic machines. My polling place actually had (short) lines, which I haven't seen in past elections - seems like people are pretty fired up about this election.

So - go vote! :)

I think we've received several calls a day for the past month, plus three more today. It is definitely tiring, but it's a good thing we have caller id. Of course, everyone is leaving a recorded message on our answering machine so we have to be diligent about clearing the machine or we'd run out of room!

At least in Michigan, it seems that the calls are targeting the "independent" voter -- the ones not registered with a party. They seem to be the Holy Grail this year.

And FYI, polls are open in Michigan from 7am to 7pm today. Voted in the rain at lunch time and was number 388, which is huge for this area!!

Don't you love it when you get those calls. Laura Bush has called me twice in the past week, I wish I could have told her I early voted - last week...

I voted right after work. I dropped dd at grammy's and brought ds. He was disappointed when he found out there weren't any boats. He thought we were going boating. :)

That's exactly what my DD thought! When we parked at the polling place, she said, "Mommy, we need our oars!" She then pretended to take them out of her (pretend) backpack a la Dora. I finally got it and said, "Oh, no, honey, we're going to VOTE, not on a BOAT." She said, "I need to put my oars back into my backpack." :)

Cute! :D

I snuck out and voted first thing this morning. Maddy and Jarred were none the wiser. DH spent 14 hours working at the polls today, talk about a long day...

That's really cute. DH and I took Kaya after his yoga class this morning and she was actually very good. We had to wait maybe 10-15 minutes, but nothing bad. Just as it was my turn, the handicap electronic voting machine opened up and the guy asked me if I wanted to sit. :D For some reason it reminded me of my earlier experience this week of using the "old lady carts" at the grocery store. :P

Anyway, Kaya walked over with me and he asked if she wanted to push the voter card in, which she did. Then while I voted, I would let her push the button on the bottom to scroll to the next page. So Kaya "helped" me vote today. Afterwards, she got an "I voted" sticker and though we put it on her coat, she decided she wanted it around her fingers like a bandaid (one of the things she loves doing with those address labels I get in the mail).
