I recently had a postpartum checkup and suddenly was wondering if I should send or take something in to my midwife. Do others do this? And if so, how do you handle it when you've worked with multiple midwives or doctors? A group gift or just something for the person who helped you deliver?

I took a nice big box of chocolates (from Sam's Club) and said it was for my midwife and the group to share. I'm not sure about this time of year, though. They may have chocolate coming out the wazoo by now!

I sent a birth announcement and gave my midwife a small photo album of Maddy's birth and nothing for Jarre d(yet) though I plan on doing the same. I told her she could use them to show others that were thinking of doing waterbirths.
My midwife is super healthy whole foods/TJ kind of lady so choclates wouldn't have gone well for her. :)
I always send a christmas card with a pic too. I know the ladies that work in the office love all the baby pics.
Gifts are always appreciated.

i took potted orchids. a large one for the office to enjoy, and a smaller one for my primary ob (who delivered me) and my nurse practitioner who did many of my pre-natal and all of my post-natal non-healing-tears visits (once a week for weeks 4-16). they were well received and i saw them there, still in bloom, for months after i gave them.

I gave my midwife a framed picture (not of DD, just something moving to hang on the wall). I thought about getting something for the group, but she delivered me & I had the closest relationship with her throughout.

ETA: I have a friend that uses a large OB group, but only sees 2 of them. She had a very difficult pregnancy & delivery, & felt they were really there for her. SHe got each of them a very nice desk clock engraved with dr's name.

At our first checkup after the hospital, I gave my family doc a handmade ornament, and a couple to the ladies in the reception area that we saw regularly, and we give our doctor pictures when we have our appointments. We also take the office a box of cookies from our favorite bakery when we go for his yearly checkup.

We had two midwives and an apprentice. All three of them were there for most prenatal visits and for the birth.

I sent a box of vegan cookies from the Alternative Baking Company about a month or so later. You can find them online.

We only had one midwife through the whole pg, and brought her a handmade gift and nice note following DS2's amazing birth. We did something similar for our doula.

I brought a bottle of Veuve Clique champaigne to my first post-delivery check-up. It was around New Years so champaigne felt appropriate. And I just loved my ob-gyn, he was amazing. I recommend him to all my friends in SF Bay Area.

I sent my OB (and my Cardio b/c she was just as integral in the delivery) a gift basket from Stonewall Kitchen:

It's their "Down East Breakfast". I wanted to send the one with the bacon included but Jonathan told me that it wasn't appropriate to send to a Cardiologist. :P

I figure that they probably get so many cookies, flowers, etc., that this was one gift that they could at least use with their families. I think the card read, "For your family in thanks for helping to create ours".

I made our ob and pediatrician fudge. 2 big boxes each, 1 for the office and one to take home.
I figure with all the phone calls i make each year the nurses at the ped's office need it just as much. and my ob's a chocolate fiend.
Suggestion-find out if anyone's allergic to anything. My ob's allergic to shellfish.
