I stumbled on these plastic ring things

and thought they sounded great, but did wonder whether I and my family would remember to use them, and if the socks really stay together in them through the wash.

Any other gadgets, ideas, or tips to make it easier to mate socks together after washing?

My mom safety pins them together (on the inside of the socks). Sometimes she'll use the old fashioned diaper pins. They don't unclasp as easily.

Someone in my dorm hall used to number his white socks with a black sharpie. It's okay if you don't mind having numbers on the bottom of your feet!

I used them growing up and those work great! I had some sock clips later that didn't work so well---they were too hard to open.

Nothing fancy, but I keep a small lingerie bag in the laundry room. When I have an odd sock without a mate, I stick it in there. Every so often (every few weeks probably) I go through the bag, and re-mate the socks. It works better if you routinely buy the same type/brand of sock because you are more likely to eventually come up w/ a mate.

Me too. I use one of the cubbies in my hanging organizer for all unmated socks. It works really well since eventually the socks do all turn up.

My parents have used these since I was a kid (and probably long before that). They work great. The only problem with them is keeping track of them and making a habit of using them.
