View Full Version : Do you put an ID on your child in case they become lost?

This isn't an issue that has come up with us...yet. But DN wandered off; he was found directly afterward but SIL was in a panic obviously.

I was wondering since, this is a concern for me, if anyone has something that they put on their child to ID them? And if you do then please tell us what you use?

Thanks!

On a day-to-day basis, we don't. When we are traveling (esp. in a busy airport or the like) I do tuck one of DH's biz cards with our cell phone #'s into a pocket or shoe.

I'll be interested in seeing other responses...

We do when we are travelling and sometimes (depending on the shoes DD is wearing) at home.

I got the idea from Lori, Momof3Labs. I got a small pet ID tag from Petsmart and had DD's 1st name and both of our cell numbers engraved on it. Then, I thread it through her shoe laces.

As an aside, I have ordered IDs for DH and I from http://www.roadid.com so that we have ID when we are running, biking, etc..

I just saw RoadID in Runner's Magazine. I was thinking it might be a good idea to put one on Dora's ankle when she gets a little older and is primarily walking.

I need to get something for DD for an upcoming trip. I like the pet tag idea. The other things I'm looking at are from www.whosshoesid.com and www.idonme.com. One of the styles from idonme can be worn as a bracelet or threaded on shoes.

another pet tag user here... and i'm sure i got the idea here at the BBB, so thanks!!!

i got mine from boomerangtags.com. their 'collartags' lay flat and can be threaded thru shoe laces at the base of the lacing pattern or slide onto velcro straps (like on DS's pedipeds). and when he outgrows one pair, i just move that tag onto the next pair.

we've used this one with no problems -- its always attached to ds' shoes.

eta: they have these for sale cheaply on ebay.

I like their "collartag" style that slide onto the shoelaces, but won't jingle when DS walks around. You inspired me to order tags for DS tonight. :)

I like the collartags! Which size and style did you order? I'm wondering if the mini collartag would work well.

That is a good question that I have not thought about.

oh, well, different sizes for different shoes. doesn't help much, does it? i'm lazy and can't be bothered with switching it over between this 3 main pairs at any given time. so i just have ordered different one's to go with different shoes.

the mini 1/2" split fits on ds's liam pediped straps (really skinny double velcro closure). the 5/8" split small or 3/4" medium fits on the thicker straps of things like SKR's. the mini 3/8" fits on normal kids thickness shoe laces - the type you can lace yourself - but for the ones with elastic laces sewn into the shoe, i went with a regular 'hang tag' style in the mini (for cats or toy dogs - it's somewhere between the size of a dime and a nickel) and just used the smallest split ring (like a key ring) i could find at my local locksmith.

DS' clothes have to labeled for school. So his labels have his last name and my cellphone number on them. DH (former cop) tells me that cops will look near the tags in clothes to see if there is any info. . . .

Good point Catherine, I wonder if an iron on label would be the way to go then? Hmm, something to think about, thanks to everyone for weighing in!
